Edna Kingsley: I'm just venting! I have started a Facebook, Twitter, Instagram Commaful, Discord, and Reddit trying to gain friends online because for whatever reason I can't seem to get help through my school and my "friends"
I have run into several great people here and doing things that have been suggested to me. I entered some contests this week and wrote some reviews. I got 1 vote in one contest and none in the others.
I entered some online contests didn't get anywhere. Maybe that's the sign for me to cut my losses and put the sh***y writings away for good this time.
I'm not looking for sympathy I just don't have a sounding board.
    nor84: if you don't promote your postings, you will rarely get more than one or two reviews. To promote your posting, by a certificate with your member dollars and also by a number of member cent pumps. use your pumps with the certificate to move up in the listing. People don't know you unless you promote yourself. Become fans of people whose writing you like and support them by reviewing their work and by voting for them. Not all contests are blind, although most of them are. -

    Please don't give up. If you do, you are letting other individuals make up you mind for you. Don't judge your writing by contest results, either. Sure, all who enter would like to win. Many seasoned members sometimes receive 1 or few votes. Placing, or not placing, in a contest isn't the measure of your writing.
    Are you building your fan base? That helps promote your writing to other members who you have in your base. You can fan up to 5 per day. They don't have to fan you back. Those online media places are, at times, negative influence on members. Don't believe everything any of them write.

    You are a new member to FS. Give it some time. Write, write, write. Join some clubs.

Edna Kingsley: Here I am! I was told to write, read and post. Done! Done! Done! Why is it I'm doing as I was asked, yet I'm still not getting anywhere? All I want to do is be heard. Spent my entire life in this same place! Anyone out there feel as lonely as I do within these paid sites?
    damommy: I think the trick is to keep posting and also reviewing to build up your fan base. It took me quite a while, but now I have many people I can trust to give me an honest review. Mostly, I write for my own enjoyment, and hope someone else out there will like it, too. 8-) -
    nor84: first, you need to build up your fan story money by reviewing and collecting the rewards for reviewing. Then, you might try entering some of the contests to see if you could win a little more fan story money. Then, you have to promote your work by buying a certificate with your fan story money and using member cents pumps that you also purchase with fan story money to promote that work so that it pays people well to review your posting. Otherwise, you get a couple of free reviews and the promotion ends. Nobody sees your work unless they open your portfolio, and at that point it's only paying them two cents to read it. Very rare for people to read and review at two cents.

    Pam Lonsdale: The more you review, the more you can promote your work. I'm still learning how to use this site, but I have found that to be the key to getting feedback. I think you can also join writers' groups. -
