Diva112072: I am a mother of three and have been married for fourteen years. I love to reasd and write. My problem is I have all kinds of ideas for writing, I just can't get them on paper. Or I'll start something and lose interest in what I'm writing.
    Margaret Snowdon: Then, when you lose interest - store it in a draft/file - then go back to it when something comes to mind, so you can add to it - that's how I write - jotting everything down and then I finish it off later - just a thought. Margaret. -
    bhogg: Margaret is right on track! I do this all the time. I work pretty much full time, so don't have time to write as much as I would like. I have a red spiral notebook that I jot ideas down in and circle back to it all the time. -
    mstad55: They both know what they are talking about. I used to travel with a micro tape recorder. I did my first book on tape complete with different voices for each character. As far as Fan story goes. Write short and post lots. Get feedback so you can find out what makes people want to read what you write. And if they don't like what you write but you do, write some more. If it makes you feel good, someone or many someones will feel good reading it. mstad55 -
    Babibrn: very smart idead indeed. write it down till later or record in on a mini recorder and then go back and put the pieces together.the best stories come out that way. hiy guys how is everybody? -
    SeLF: SeLF: May I respectfully suggest you allow yourself an hour or so every day, maybe when the kids are at school, if they are in school, or if they are down for a nap,...start a "brainstorming" file for your writing ideas -- let the plots, or settings, or characters just wander in, but keep them all. You might not use them now, but mayber later something else will trigger a connection to a "brainstormed" character or situation.

    L.lora: Margaret gave you a great suggestioin and it works no matter what genre you are wanting to work with. I often write down one or two lines that flip through my mind and later I go through my notes and find that several may fit a poem or story that is in mind. Looking forward to your work. Remember, there is no length to your work--it can be a paragraph to several pages but its a start...L -

    misscookie: Hello. nice to met you my new fan. many years ago my daugther gave me a journal for my Birthday. I laughed because I thuught my life was boringboy was I wrong. To make along story short I had many note books oy poems and stories.in the 70 I had several strokes and I found these books not knowning I use to write.
    when ever I went to the doctors if they ask me a question I went to my journal. Istill do because of short term memory lost it helps me when I get an Idea i try to write it down before I forget. I must confess I forget a lot or my mind goes blankI call it having as Cookie moment
    Thanks to my daugther who passed away 2006. I have found many pieces of papers with note ideas
    some I throw away not knowning what they were. I now try to keep all mjy papers they come in handy. I tell you as the others have told you write what every your muse give you no matter what it is. You take time for your family right. Than give yourself a hour or so just to write even if its a daily journal. before you know it you will want to write a short story or poem. I can't wait until you post something on F/s

    joann r romei: My advice, begin, let thoughts flow, from that you will think, expand and begin to evolve a story, warning, it may turn into the monkey on your back, lol -
    bookishfabler: We all get that way, especially when we begin. All I can say is do it. At first it may seem a bit daunting, but as time grows and you make more and more friends (fans) You will develope more and more. I started in 2006, can you imagine? and If I look at my writing when I started, I don't even think I wrote it. There are many good writeres here and some amazing critiguer's (I don't believe thats a word) When I arrived here, I entered the contest for newbies and I thought it was an excellent horror story. Hehehehe. I quess it wasn't bad, but my writing then did not express it. It was full of nits, spags and just bad sentence structure. I still do this, but less and less. I also now see more in other authors work, and even the biggies I listen to in my car. They make booboos too. So, get those ideas out, we'll help you fix it, and in time, you won't be able to wait to post something new.

    cantrhymetoogood: Diva, you've received so many encouraging words in the comments above that all i can say is, the first one is kinda "the hump." Carry a pad and try to focus on one thing that excites or bothers you most. One step at a time, one line at a time, one rhyme (if you're so inclined) at a time. Once you've finished your first, they start to come a little easier. Your children should provide you with plenty of subject matter. Example: watching a school play, or a halloween costume, or reading a bedtime story. You go girl! We're pullin' for ya! -
    barkingdog: Just type until something formats itself for prose or start with a simple 5/7/5. You gotta start somewhere. I used to be afraid to type a curse word. Now, my characters say what ever they please.
    So just do it. We don't bite. And those that do are meanies and don't count, anyway. -
    njoyfun1: None of your writing will be wasted. Store the bits and pieces on a flash drive. You'll use almost everything. Take ten minutes and write. It doesn't matter if it's a journal, a poem, or an anecdote. Maybe something the kids said or did today. The best ideas come to mind when you sit down to re-read what you have written. Don't give up!

    xotic flotsam: Sometimes when the writer's tornado dissassembles my thoughts. I stop thinking about vocabulary, structure, rules and rhyme patterns. I just puke out the random thoughts until it stops. Then I look again, get my points and edit them together. Some writing is a flood. No time to think. Just paddle your keystrokes. The rest will clarify after the big out burst. No first draft, no wandering without an obvious path directs or shows you your way. Hurl the random thoughts, the kaleidescope looks random, unfocused. But that is how it looks as all the color chips pour in. Write the mosaic color chips. Twist it just right by editing. Your work will come to life. -

    Anthony Crosbie: Im glad you raised this point as I was worrying about my inability to remain focussed. I would keep all your ideas, however random, in a file and down the line review them. You are sure to find some great ideas from previous unfinished work. Sometimes a fresh look at something produces a new and exciting idea. I often wake up during the night and as i sit there half asleep i take notes of my thoughts. In the morning take a look and you might get a nice surprise. -
