Brytni_Marie: Question to anyone that can possibly help me. If I post something, and then change some things in it (if I make corrections from other people's helpful comments), can I re-post it to be re-reviewed? THANKS!
shelley kaye: you can't REpost it, but you can rePROMOTE it.
    -
purrfect tale: Just edit the current listing then you can send replies to the previous reviewers and ask them to take a second look. -
Brytni_Marie: Great! Thank you guys! -

Brytni_Marie: A new year...a new chapter. Please read and comment. Also, please make the comments positive and not demeaning :) the comments from the prologue were wonderful and helpful. Thanks!

Brytni_Marie: ok everybody! I have a question...it might be a dumb one, but I really do not know the answer and any would be very helpful. Can someone "steal" your work if you post things on here?
another jim: Here's what I was told by an attorney. Someone can "steal" your work no matter where you post it. But remember: Once you post a written piece, it is copyrighted and nobody can reproduce/use it without your permission. If they do, it becomes a case of copyright infringement. That's usually enough to keep the art thieves at bay.

And remember, always keep a digital copy of anything you post, as it can serve as proof of who wrote it and when.

Does it still happen? Sure. People plagiarize (steal) other writers' stuff all the time. And that's why we have lawyers and courts... -
Bellydanser: Jim's information is correct from what I know of it.

Additionally, if you find your work plagiarized, and can prove it was yours, the only thing at that point is you can legally stop them from claiming it. If someone stole your work and made lots of money, and you want financial compensation from them, however, you would have needed to take the extra step of copyrighting it through the feds before it's stolen. That can get expensive. I've only heard of one case recently involving a very successful author, and he did manage to win recompense for the theft. -
purrfect tale: This is related. I had a magazine that was going to print one of my stories until I told them I had it up here. They would not accept anything that had been posted on-line at all because of the possibility of theft and the thief passing it around for free. In a nutshell, they said why pay me for it if the public can read it for free on-line. -
Brytni_Marie: thank you everyone for the information :) It has been very helpful and I look forward to hear what you have to say about my writing :) Hopefully I'll be brave enough to post something soon! -

Brytni_Marie: I'm shocked at how some people post things every single day and I have yet to post one thing...lol. How do you all post so much writings? Is it just piled up somewhere from past years of writing and you just post one of them everyday or is there specific time you set aside to post? I need pointers :)
Border Reiver: It amazes me too! Surely they canā??t produce quality work over night!
About your previous post, enter the contests don't worry if what you writing isn't perfect there are plenty of kind and helpful reviewers who will help you tweak your work before the deadline for the contest.
If you need further inspiration, the first story I have ever shared with the public has just won a contest.
Plus if you're paying for your membership you may as well post something to get the benefit of spending the cash. Good luck I'm sure whatever your write will be great. If not after a few reviews you'll start to learn how to make it great. Ignore the star system on the site, it can be a distraction.
Come on post! I'm even going to become a fan so that you'll be guaranteed a reader!
    -
Border Reiver: How my apostrophe turned into ??? I don't know. -
RhiannonD: I just dropped by to read some of your stuff...then realised you said you were yet to post :0) I am spending more time reading than writing at the moment and all my posts are things I had already written, I have now got to the stage where I need to post the stories I am currently working on, but I'm a bit too freaked out to do that. I'm not sure I want to 'kill my darlings' just yet. The helpful reviews I've received so far have been very encouraging. I would love to read something of yours, but you would need to post it first. -
RhiannonD: I'm a fan too! I just notice it says March31 at 7:31pm It's actually April 1 at 10:34am in my world! Happy April Fools Day! -
Brytni_Marie: thank you both for your advice. And thanks for being fans even though I haven't posted anything yet :) I will post soon! -
RhiannonD: Hey Brytni-Marie, thanks for fanning me! I haven't written for a while, so busy reading and reviewing. I'm still looking forward to your first post! Have you thought of posting something you wrote earlier? You do say in your info that you love reading and writing... -
Brytni_Marie: I do. I have this problem of starting a work but never finishing it. I get a few chapters into it and then I get an idea for something new. I'm hoping that this place will help me finish one :) I don't have access to the computer that has all my works on it until about Sunday. So that's when I'm going to try to post something. I don't know if it'll be an older work or a newer one. Whatever one makes me less terrified to post I guess :/ -

Brytni_Marie: Okay, so I've been thing about entering one of the contests....and I must say that I am very nervous. I haven't entered a writing contest since the 8th grade. Even though I did fine I guess I'm just nervous about not creating my best work. I'm not a fan of rejection or bad reviews when it comes to my work. What should I do? Go for it maybe??
another jim: Are you kiddin' me? Go for it! It doesn't matter whether you win, place, show, or end up as an also-ran. A contest provides a good creative spark to get your engine running--and that's how you have to look at it. Use it as a forum for practicing your writing. You'll get some useful feedback, which will make you a better writer. Forget about the competitive aspect; it's fun, sort of, but really, it's unimportant.

Just write, dammit! The rest? Fahgedddaboudit!

redrider6612: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just keep in mind, the comments are directed at the writing--don't take them personally! It's the only way you're going to learn and grow into the great writer you're going to be! -
Thesis: Love your quote, Lol. If you want to write, you have to just construct your story and post it. Don't get caught up in reviews. You'll get good ones and bad ones. The ones you think are accurate and can help you, embrace. The others, thank the reviewer for taking the time to read your story, but don't take their comments to heart. Writing is like everything else.It takes practice and revisions. Don't be afraid. -
