Returning to writing
I have had a long absence, not just from the site, but writing in general owing to general life stuff.
Having not written a thing in over a year, I am struggling to start again. Has anyone any tips for getting the writing brain operating again?
RE: Returning to writing
I've been in the same boat recently.
I started with little vignettes about things I was curious about or which presented to me. Just short descriptive passages and so in and built back up from there.
Just the usual, a little bit each day
RE: Returning to writing
Thanks, Gman. I will try that.
RE: Returning to writing
This has been my boat as well. I've been struggling to finish any of my writing projects for the past year.
This is my first try on this site and so far just joining into as many contests I can in as many different formats I can has been useful. The last time I wrote poetry was...probably high school? Trying something new has helped break free some of the stones in my way in my other projects.
RE: Returning to writing
Actually, a site contest I saw yesterday did trigger a bit of a germ of an idea...

I feel your pain. I'm having the same issue due to other stuff and work.

Hey, Emma, Great to see you back with a revamped persona or at least a geographically re-located one!
unless you are one of those weird people who can set aside a certain time of the day, every day, and then write, I have to say that it's a matter of waiting for the spark to come.
All of us have other lives and most of us have to devote more time and energy to those other lives than our FS ones. As life circumstances change, maybe you can afford to devote more time to writing. perhaps now that you have settled into being a mainlander it will be the right time. Hope so!
RE: Returning to writing
Just start entering contests. The dumber the better. That's all I ever do here. Do even one a week and in a year, poof, you'll have 50 short works.
RE: Returning to writing
I understand where you?re coming from and I would like to say sometime you have to tap in to your imagination. Without thinking about what you write this is using your non dominant hand. Begin to write and your thought pattern will change and you will be surprised by how much you have written.
RE: Returning to writing
Thanks all, some great advice. Of course, after I posted this, life got a bit manic, but quieter times ahead will hopefully lead to writing again.
