Could I die for what I believe?

Would I be a martyr?

by Roxanna Andrews

Today, so many are dying for their Faith.
Would I rather play it safe?

What would I do if given a choice,
to live or use my voice,

to proclaim what I know to be the truth of God?
Would I be willing to leave this earthly sod?

More Christians die today than in all of history,
More than Nero martyred in the 1st century.

So many imprisoned for proclaiming the Lord,
Their end may very well come by the sword.

The Lord, while He walked on this earth,
Proclaimed things we can now read in verse.

"In this world you will have trouble,
but fear not, for I won't let you stumble,

For I have overcome the world.
Be not afraid when stones are hurled.

For I am with you always,
Even until the very end of days."

And when this world ends and is no more,
On that day when The Lion of Judah will roar,

and gather us all to sit at His feet.
The words of this song we will repeat,

"Worthy is the One who was slain for us!"
He did that for me, a human, but dust.

Should I not be willing to die as well,
for the One who saved me from the depths of hell?

If the time comes I'm asked to make that sacrifice,
My prayer is I willingly give up my life.

Today more Christian are martyred than ever in history. They have been and still are being killed by the hundreds in parts of Africa.

Christ told his disciples they will be hated by the world for His sake. They would be burned at the stake, beheaded, torn in two and imprisoned. All His disciples were martyred except John. Peter was crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to be crucified as Christ was.

So, would I be willing to die for my faith? I've no doubt I'll be scared I don't want it to come to that but, yes.

These are the verses I used as part of my poem, I did change the wording a bit.
John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world"

Matthew 28:20b "And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

Revelations 5:12 "Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!"
