Winter out wits the sun(shape Poem)

Winter Is Here

by Roxanna Andrews

Temperatures drop
and I bluster and
blow, time for
me to whip
up some
snow. It
begins to
rain, but I blow a
cold wind
and from rain
drops snow flakes
begin to form and
fly by night and,
shimmer in the
moon's pale
light. They fall, silently until
the morning hour, when the sun
xxxxxxxxxxxx will awaken feeling angry and glower xxxxxxxxxxxx
at the white drifts that I made with
flake and wind. Now Winter's time
can begin. The wonder of it
fills many a child's eye,
as down hills of my snowy white
powder they slide. Squeals of delight
ring through towns large and small, and
children wish for more snow to fall. Each parent
hopes it is all done, but children see only the fun, of
a snowball fight and sleds down a hill. To them it is an
exhilarating, heart pounding thrill, to fly, my cold air
biting at cheek, soon it will be a warm fire they'll
seek. Maybe hot soup and a cup of cocoa, and
back out into my wintry arms they will go.
Then a snowman will be built, with a
scarf at the neck, and a top
hat of felt. Then some
coal for eyes
and a mouth pushed in tight, and a carrot nose positioned
just right. Then the sun will go down having lost its bid, of trying
my snow and ice to rid. As night flakes begin to fall, on a snow
covered branch a white owl calls, "Whoo?" And I answer,
"It's just me again. It's my time. Time for Winter to begin."
