Jealous brother sell Joseph

A chapter in the book Joseph

Joseph Part 1 Betrayal

by Roxanna Andrews

Joseph

Long ago there lived a boy,
His brothers thought him very coy.

His father's favorite, given a colorful coat,
Torn and dipped in the blood of a goat.

His brothers' hate without boundaries paved,
The way to sell him as hapless slave.

"We're rid of him, the dreamer boy!"
Their father fell for their ploy,

"Oh father dear, Joseph is dead,"
They told him as fake tears were shed.

Their proof, torn coat dipped in blood,
The grief of Jacob a massive flood.

But the story, it ends not here,
For the one that Jacob held so dear,

Was seen to be a righteous man,
Bought by Potiphar, a soldier in command.

Soon put in charge of his household,
But the commander's wife turned evil and cold.

She lied and he was sent to jail,
But even there he couldn't fail,

Made in charge of the prison, he,
Until the day he was set free,

For he had a gift, interpreting dreams.
So all his brothers' plans and schemes,

They were all for naught,
For this one thing they forgot,

Man is never the one in charge,
God's plans for us are much too large,

For mere man to do alone,
And God is always on His throne.

Joseph was the son of Rachel, Jacobs favorite wife, so Joseph was the favorite son. He had dreams about his brothers and parents bowing to him one day. This enraged his brothers as did the coat especially made for him. One day when sent to check on his brothers, they saw an opportunity to be rid of him. They striped him of his coat and threw him in a pit. The oldest brother planned to come back and get him, but when traders from Egypt passed by they saw a chance to be rid of him for good and sold him as a slave. Dipping his coat in goats blood the boys told their father an animal had killed Joseph. Jacob never fully recovered from the loss of his favorite son. But Joseph was no ordinary boy, he was very intelligent. When bought by Potiphar captain of the palace guard, he was soon in charge of the household. Joseph being handsome as well caught the eye of his master wife, and when he refused her, she lied and said he had attacked her, which landed him in jail. But even there he prospered as he was put in charge of the whole prison. Genesis 37-38
