A savior is born

The First Christmas Night

by Roxanna Andrews

Twill soon be Christmas, that time of year,
When many souls feel the Savior draw near.

He came as a baby to banish all fear,
The shepherds in fields were the first to hear.

An angel appeared in a brilliant white light,
Giving shepherds with sheep a terrible fright.

But he told them, "Please do not fear,
For I have wonderful news God wants you to hear.

For this very night in a stable near by,
A Savior is born, and this is why,

He will save the people from their sin.
Tonight His life on earth will begin."

Then more angels appeared and they all sang again,
"Peace on earth and good will to men."

Then the angels went away and the shepherds made haste,
To see this wondrous thing that had just taken place.

To a tiny stable they ran quickly to see,
A baby in hay and fell to their knees.

They worshiped the child they found lying there,
Who would take on himself every care.

Then in the East a huge star appeared in the sky,
And hundreds of wise men pondered why.

They knew only one reason to see such a thing,
Somewhere there had been born a very great King.

So they packed up their camels and with family,
They started the long trek this King for to see.

They followed the star to a house with a child,
They worshiped with gifts and the little King smiled.

This King that was born in ancient of days,
That angels and shepherds and wise men praised,

He still lives today for me and for you,
And today He can be your Savior too.

Every year we celebrate the day He was born,
For the good and bad, the rich or forlorn.

So this Christmas, please give Him a gift,
Give Him your heart and your focus will shift.

Peace on earth your heart will sing,
And in heaven today Hallelujahs will ring.

Did you know shepherds were the most despised of all people in that place and time? They were the lowest of low. Why then did God send his Angles to tell them before any other being on earth, that a great King had been born? The very son of God? God is not a respecter of persons. He see everyone the same. His love is the same for all mankind.

Then a star appeared and the wealthy were told of His coming.

Because of the Nativity scenes we put up in our homes and the three gifts the wise men gave, we have come to believe there are only three wise men. But scholars believe there were anywhere from three hundred to a thousand or more. They no doubt brought their families and servants because it was such a long journey, at least two years, making a huge caravan. No doubt there were thousands in the caravan.

Why else would King Herod have been so threatened by their coming to find a new King? Would you worry about three men? Would three men have caused him to send soldiers to Bethlehem to kill every child under the age of two? Probably not, but thousands looking for a new king would.
