Hope in the midst of despair

This Too Shall Pass

by Sarah Sandison

Pain unbearable, searing my heart.

I hear a guttural cry, and realise it's me.

To be rejected by my own flesh and blood,

My mind simply can not process.

The words won't come.

I distract myself to try to forget,

But it creeps back in with ferocious velocity,

Like it's just happened.

How long will this last?

Have I lost her?

Forever?

I struggle to hear,

Although I cry for help.

Where is Your voice?

I shout 'help me'

Then,

A still small voice says,

'This too shall pass',

And in the pain there comes a peace.

Is this You, I ask?

How do I know?

Then the words are sent from another,

'This too shall pass',

And in that moment I feel joy.

My shepherd has heard my cry.

He sees me.

He knows me.

He loves me.

He feels my pain.

He cries with me.

But,

This too shall pass.

I will be restored.

This has been hard for me to write but it is helping me heal from a very difficult rejection that has no logic. Some of my poems, I use my imagination to write them. This is all fact, I heard that still small voice and am so grateful for it.
