Commemorating Pearl Harbor

The Day of Infamy

by damommy

Almost two years before I’m born,
this day of days was done.
It happened early Sunday morn,
just as the day’d begun.

It brought us into World War Two,
to fight where evil trod,
and men joined up in brown or blue,
well trained, well armed, well shod.

But now, it seems, so few are left
to mark the sacrifice
that left a nation sore bereft
for all who paid the price.

It’s said if you look in the deep
where Arizona lies
and oil leaks still from wreckage seep,
‘twill bring tears to your eyes.

Commemorate the catalyst,
that catapult of war.
Salute the flag and bow your head
for those who are no more.
