A Pantygynt poem

Black Cat at Window

by damommy

The cat looks out into the dark
and sees the strangest thing.
What can it be, he doesn’t know,
this noble ebon king.

The oddest thing he’s seen tonight,
the tiny floating twinkling light
that lightning bugs make when in flight.
His tail begins to swing.

What else do shadows hold out there,
what else is there to see?
The moon is hidden in the clouds.
Oh, what a mystery.

His nose is pressed to windowpane
in hopes the ‘stars’ will come again.
But soon, his interest starts to wane.
He hops onto my knee.

He’d rather wait for early birds
just as the sun awakes.
And then they come in tiny herds
for seeds and suet cakes.

That’s when he's back up on the ledge,
'tween the glass and drapes he tries to wedge
his slender body on the edge.
With joy, his body shakes.
