Natali Holden: I need a name to use for a character. I'm trying to choose between Titania, Elisa, Wynter, or Lyra. Any opinions? |

The second thing to be considered is how your chosen name will come across to your readers. The name implies the personality. For example a woman whose name is Elizabeth may insist on dispensing with the usual nicknames, but you should know that she will be perceived differently from an Elizabeth who wants to be called Liz or Lizzie. A man called Rick will be perceived differently from someone who demands to be called Richard. And it's possible to get too carried away with this naming thing. I was once fond of the series where the heroes were Vikings, always transported somehow to the current age. They carried with them their Viking names, some of which were unpronounceable. WWhen the author became aware of the way people mangle those names when trying to save them,, she said she would never name someone again with a name that people would stumble over. I hope this helps. There are lists of baby names available in book form, or online. I believe you can find the most popular names for a century, or a decade with an online search. - | ||
