Retired music teacher, and now trying to write my heart out, about what is going on in my mind.

I was asked a few times what my surname means. I only know it is from French origin. I did a Google search and I found the following explanation.

Plessis (Afrikaans: du Plessis) Plessy, and de Plessis are related surnames of French origin, and may refer to: A plessis meant a fence made of interwoven branches in Old French. French people: ... Alphonse-Louis du Plessis de Richelieu, French bishop.

My poem Christmas Feast - Christus Fees where I used Afrikaans to demonstrate our language against English there was a few people asking about the origins of Afrikaans. Although we have many words from other languages the majority of our vocabulary is from Dutch origin.

Here is the results of a Google search about the origins of Afrikaans.

It is the first language of most of the Afrikaners and Coloureds of Southern Africa. Although Afrikaans has adopted words from other languages, including Portuguese, the Bantu languages, Malay, German and the Khoisan languages, an estimated 90 to 95% of the vocabulary of Afrikaans is of Dutch origin.
