Lisa Charlie: After a lengthy writer's block, I am back. I so missed my FanStory friends.
    Lisa Charlie: Thanks Steevie for the info. I write emotionally I guess. If I don't have anything tugging at my emotions, then I find it hard to turn out something worthwhile. I have Adult ADD so that sometimes gets in my way. -

Lisa Charlie: NEED A LESSON --PLEASE HELP!! Where can I find all the rules for haiku poems. I am Really having a tough time getting this right. Every time I write one the reviews tell me about another rule that I didn't follow.

    Donya Quijote: Alvin recommended that I purchase a handbook called the Haiku handbook. It's very good has helped me a lot. Also a recommend that you peruse the Frogpond, a journal of haiku and other Japanese short forms published by the Haiku Society of America. It helps too. -
    finaldraft: Lisa; Look at the heading at the top of your page. Click on INFO. Select from the dropdown list TYPES OF POETRY. -
    Jane Johnson: Lisa, I think of poetry as dancing. If you can't get the rhythm, you can't dance. it has to come from deep down within. I am very turned off by shallow poetry, like someone jumping up and down to a waltz. Ya know? You're cool! I like you. -
    Jane Johnson: You can also type Haiku into your browser of variations of a haiku and it will tell you all you ever needed to know Lisa. I use the browser search window a lot.

    Indie Skreet: The only rule I know of a Haiku is that it is a 5 7 5 in syllables and the best are the ones with the most powerful or funny messages - in my opinion :) -

    Jane Johnson: Lisa, I joined FS last May and I enjoy it. Like you, I started writing at about 10 years old and was encouraged by friends to do something with this past time. I think reading and reviewing others poetry helps you to find your voice and helps you to become very good friends with your dictionary/thesaurus and even a rhyming dictionary. I have learned quite a bit since I joined and I definitely have a good idea what things I like and don't like, but sometimes something will come along that will fool you. So, enjoy! Make it a fun experience. You only live once! jane
