FanStory wrote to adewpearl: We are sorry to pass on the news of the passing of adewpearl. While not active recently due to medical reasons - she touched so many authors on FanStory with her feedback and her poetry. She was Poet of the Year every year from 2009-2014. She will be missed.

    Joy Graham: Saying bye to Brooke is difficult. She was a fantastic teacher, mentor, and friend. She called us all her friends. I miss her, and my heart hurts so much right now. Robyn Corum will be starting a multi-author book where I hope all will share their memories of Brooke so we can grieve together.

She said she also felt strong and is comfortable at the facility plus hoped to post on FanStory again soon. Our chat was cut short by the arrival of her daughter. However, I said I would call again after I return from my family's annual trip to Ashland, Oregon's Shakespeare festival next week and hoped we could arrange a visit. It was reassuring to hear Brooke's good spirits and sense she is receiving excellent care. Smiles- Joan -

    Amsterdam: adewpearl: For two years I worked as a professional activist for the anti-apartheid office of the peace education division of the American Friends Service Committee, and I did that following a few years as a campus activist.
    While we engaged in demonstrations and boycotts, we also organized rallies, gave speeches on college campuses and at church ladies' luncheons and for fraternal groups like the Lions and Elks clubs. We were guest speakers at high school assemblies and engaged in debates with representatives of the South African consulate and went on barnstorming tours, like one to Iowa before the caucuses to select presidential candidates. I edited a national newsletter, and we appeared on local talk shows as we traveled the country. So, as an activist, I was just as likely to address a luncheon of chamber of commerce members as I was to get arrested outside the South African consulate in NYC.
