joaohnna is a mom, more than once over. She lives in the bush of northern Ontario, Canada. She has lived there for about 22 years. She likes to plant trees, and look after small animals. She has raised chickens and bunnies and goats and pigs at different times and places. She has had dogs, and cats and kittens around most of her life. and goldfish.

She lived without electricity, running water,etc. from 1989 to 1994; and lived with not enough water, but inside plumbing from 1995 to 1999. She heated with wood from 1981 until 2005/Dec.

She likes to knit: mostly socks and leg warmers, mits, hats and an occasional scarf. She writes poetry, songs, short stories, and likes to draw, and color; has done a little bit of painting. She plays classical piano; and acoustic guitar (Steel string); she drives the "mom's taxi" for her youngest ones; and spends a lot of time on the road, mostly because town is about one hour away.

She loves the weather, up on the Canadian Shield:
extremes of temperatures in all seasons: winter goes from -40(a night-time temperature) to what she likes to call "the rosey bloom of the afternoon" at -18(t-shirt weather if you are chopping wood, and no wind is blowing). Summer sees temperatures of 7 or 8 degrees C at night (=38F) and increases to 28C (=86F)in the same day.
The bugs of summer are exquisite. Morning coffee outside with a side-order of black flies. Yum.
