Sister love is something very special and very personal. I have two and is a total different situation and relationship with each one of them! It is ok your description and that (sometimes) there is no relationship between love and friendship. In sisters, it is hard and sometimes the presence of a brother melts all the differences. Good job!

This poem is very well written, and accompanied by a great image, but it is difficult for me to relate to. If you go to my portfolio and read "A Garden of Sisters", you will understand why. Your poem flows nicely, I find it very thought-provoking. I guess I never thought of sisters like that. Still, very well done.

Congratulations on your relationship with your sisters. i did read your poem and it is a good celebration of your sister.
My family dynamics was quite different. My mom died when I was 7, my younger sister 6 and my older sister 13. Not having a mom in the house did have an effect. Although we had a Nana, she was working and my dad was a shell. So we were mostly on our own.
Between the two, my younger sister saw me as an embarrassment. and my older sister was a rebellious teenager.
Thank you for the review and comments.

That sounds like a sad childhood, which breaks my heart. Losing parents young, as we both did, is never good for children. It sounds like you read The Strength of a Daisy, about my sister who died 3 months ago. There is another one there, A Garden of Sisters, which is about all of us. We had 7 girls, all a year apart. Now we have 6 and the pain is as raw today as it was 3 months ago. Regardless of the relationships, you wrote a very good poem.

"I love you sister but you are not my friend..." The repetition became suffocating, I imagine how difficult it was for the author to write these words. I compliment you that you were to write about this pain in the heart.

This is unfortunate when your sister is not your friend and you see many faults in her including hurting others with her tongue. I don't know if it's workable, you may try, but from the sound of it, it sounds like the differences are irreparable.

Well, sometimes our friends are closer to us than our family - and a friend can be like family.

Good imagery and visuals, nicely chosen artwork - thank you for sharing!

Mary,
This was a fun romp over family ties....I loved it. Never had a sister myself- only an older brother who used me as a tackling dummy, a baseball catcher, a shot blocker or a wrestling partner.
But there is something to be said in the truth of your words written to your sister. Many of my friends who had sisters would at times complain about secrets told......diary entries revealed....clothing borrowed and either not returned or returned in a less than desirable condition. More than once I heard them exclaim in anger....my sisters not my friend....she's ....she's...... annoying as h___!
It is my genuine hope that sisterly bonds were re-established and nurtured as youth turned to adulthood. If not...personal survival is important.
Mary,
I enjoyed this free verse and send you a bit of the warm brotherly love that was shared with me...Jim was the best!

Mary,

I'm so sorry. We almost expect this kind of behavior from those outside our family units. Not too often do we look for it in our homes or close family. Scary and so sad.

The thing is that when we're kids we all pretty much get along - or in some way have sort of truces, right? But when each one grows up and goes out on their own, their life experiences change who they are and who we knew into something else. Sometimes it takes work to try to handle the new character.

In my case, I adore my brother and only sibling, but his wife and two kids can drive a saint crazy in about two minutes. --sigh--

Thanks!

Thank you for your review. We lost our mother when we were young and I think that had a lot to do with our going our separate ways.
Thank your for your comments. It is appreciated to get different ideas and perspectives.

I'm so very sorry that you have ill feelings with both of your sisters. But, you're right just because you are sisters doesn't automatically make you friends. They are like any other friend you have to not have ill feelings toward them nor them toward you. Maybe one day it will happen. My mother used to tell us when we would be fighting, that one day we would be best friends and we told her never would that happen. But, it did. And when there are circumstances as you said, difference in age and difference in personality too. You've written a good solid free verse poem.

Nasty sisters! it's a wonder you even love them. People so dismissive, cruel, and impatient - I wonder if they have any friends, and the only love they get is because of the expectation of duty through family ties.
Your poem is a tragedy of interpersonal relationships.
