Abjure

Hi,
This is such a concise poem, written in just 23 syllables.
I like the word "abjure" and what it connotes. Sometimes we sacrifice beliefs and abdicate our rights through ambiguous laws, etc.
This is an excellent example of an obscure word poem.
Good luck!
Best wishes,
Cindy

Hello there
An interesting word you have chosen to write about here. One I have never before come across, but now, having understood its meaning, you have put it to good use.
In your notes, you say;
To expect the American people to abjure the things we believe in and that this country stands for is reprehensible and unacceptable. It is the abjuration of our personal freedoms and responsibility - the very things upon which this country was founded.
Being British, I have no idea what this actually means. What is it that you are expected to give up?
kind regards

our personal freedoms if the liberals win our upcoming Presidential election. They want to change our Constitution, take away our 2nd amendment right to bear arms and defend ourselves, they want open borders, for illegals to vote, and on and on. This is the most important election in our history! It is our republic or a socialist country.

Mmmm...
Well, there is a huge problem in the U.S right now, and with respect, one of em is people going around and shooting one another...
I guess that being British and not wielding guns about, this 'right' seems rather odd to us :)
Why would you want to have a gun anyway?
Open boarders... well... forgive me for saying this, but America was 'taken' from the people who lived there. Just a question, but why was it okay for you to take their land, but not okay for others to join you? Namely other Illegals like your ancestors.
What is it about Socialism that you hate? Forgive for saying this, but given that a vast part of the U.S. is a Christian country and by that I assume the term Christain to mean careing and giving, and also treat others as you would be done by... Sorry, I don't understand...
much love

oooh, Tracy that is a lot of ground to cover. and it is late here. I will try, however, tomorrow, because I think it is important that I explain as best I can.
I know this is supposed to be blind, but what is your pen name so I can answer you tomorrow?
-
Hi there. My pen name is trimple. I look forwards to hearing from you.
Much love

You have made excellent use of all of your syllables and conveyed a powerful message about political platforms, voting decisions, uncertainties, etc. There is SO much chaos.

thank you very much!
Yes, there sure is.
I want to know what goes on in the debates, but I don't know if I can stand to watch another one - especially another biased moderator.

I had to use my online dictionary to make sure I understood the words. You did a good job fitting what you wanted to say into the 5-7-5 format. I was timid around that format at the start but I now like it the best. Helps me to rein myself in.
I imagine you are likely entering this poem in one of the contests and I wish you good luck. I think it is a worthy poem.

Cynthia, I know I answered your lovely review and comments, but it's showing that I didn't. Anyway, I do appreciate what you said. I agree about the 5-7-5 format - it limits you to the necessary.
Thanks, also for the good wishes.

A very well-written 7-9-7 obscure word poem. An important choice must be made and the final result will be concluded as either prosperity for all or total poverish needy people unsatisfied.

thank you very much and you're absolutely right. And if it is the latter, America will no longer be great.

Great job with your rhyming three-lined poem! I wasn't sure what controls or freedoms were being abjured but the picture gives us an idea. Best wishes in the contest!
