I absolutely love this. I am a die-hard Sherlock Holmes fan; especially the Granada series with Jeremy Brett. Also, I am a big fan of anything English or, indeed, British; as my family origins are Scottish. Cornwall is the setting in a particularly surreal setting in The Devil's Foot. You capture the raw beauty that Bronte conjured up and many more literary giants. Your word choices are just marvelous. Great poem.

Thank you for the lovely review and the extra special rating. We love anything British as well. My heritage is Irish and my husbands is British. We watch mostly English Television and big Sherlock Holmes fans as well. So pleased that you liked this one.

You've painted something of a haunted landscape in this pastoral romantic sonnet, a landscape where spirits ride horses across the moors, and lonely people walk in quiet contemplation of that landscape. There's beauty but also a somber kind of mood, a mood of reflection on the past, and where it might be going in the future. There's an air of uncertainty about it. estory

Dear Jm, you have taken me this morning across the fields of Cornwall on a fanciful descriptive tour that I enjoyed very much. I am so glad that you posted the photo that you did, so my eyes could really see what my ears were hearing !
Did you ever ask what sort of plants are in the hedge rows? I do not recognize any of them.

Thank you Suzanna for the lovely review. I did get some plant names in some of the gardens we visited but I didn't think to ask about what grew in the hedgerows. Good question for next time :)))

There is something special about the haunting beauty of the English moor. It adds to the mystery and mystic of Cornwall - and of places like Stonehenge. Unlike Prince Harry, I could never turn my back on that for L.A. To each his own. Thank you for sharing this lovely piece - I'm glad you were able to go last year!

Thank you June for the lovely review. You are right, there is mystery and a sense of mystic in Cornwall. Certainly at Stonehenge and Bath. I'm so pleased that you liked this one.

What a lovely sonnet and interesting notes, Janet. You were indeed fortunate to have make your trip before the virus struck. I love the picture as well. Well done my friend. Nancy:)

A very well-written sonnet about the Autumn in Cornwall that impressed the author with its rugged hinterland where kings and queens once travelled long ago.

First, congratulations on your work being recognized. Second, the flow is lovely and makes for an easy read, as does the rhyme scheme. The line 'with spirit riders racing to and fro' gave me chills. Along with the picture, I could easily visualize this scene.

Janet,
I like the images supplied by the words of the British countryside. We all hope the beauty of nature isn't marred by all the bad things the humans have done to the air and land.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Joan

A beautiful well metered sonnet and Cornwall is rural and wonderful and I have spent many of my summer holidays there as a child and as an adult, one of my favourite places in the world, a fine sonnet about a stunning place, much enjoyed, love Dolly x
