So many people fall in love with England. I have a friend whose husband was stationed there and they hope to go back and live there. They made so many friends. This is a lovely poem and so well done.

Wow, you have mastered conveying ambiance with this jewel -- I was there! Your volta, too, struck a chord with me because I have felt that strange loneliness that is inspired by a particular view...

Wonderful sonnet!

Hi Janet. A good thing you didn't go after all, eh? Wow. I wish I could even think about travel to that part of the world.
I love the pictures you painted with your words, like here:

"The hedgerows cross the hills, then cross again,
dividing fields with heavy underbrush.
A labyrinth-like path leads to a glen
where moss and lichens flourish wild and lush."

I wish I had a six left for you, Jan. Bob

Thank you for the lovely review Bob and the virtual six as well. I'm so pleased that you liked this one. We had a wonderful time but
I think travel is out of the question for us for quite a while.

    Blessings and stay well.

The author's words are interesting, descriptive and creative. Thank you
for the author's notes - I loved hearing about the background info. The poem flows and connects well. The artwork is perfect and compliments
these words.

"But as I gaze across the heath to home,
I feel a loneliness I can't explain.
This solitude may cause the frail to roam
and seek a gentler life in which to reign.

With pride, I claim this rugged hinterland
and pray its feral purity will stand."

Elizabethan sonnet well written and rhymed in fluency for the entire structure of the composition including the final couplet. I appreciated the whole theme but above all that nostalgic veil of the past and that dreamy wandering of historical trampling that will never return but at least that the beauty of the landscape remains intact and far from today's destructive progress. The poetess' only trinket!

-A very nice image, Janet,
is it a personal photo?
-Thanks for sharing about
your trip in the notes; how
wonderful that you got to take it.
-A well written poem about it.
-The imagery creates a vivid
word picture, as well as
a very calm, peaceful mood.
-I like the first verse
"where kings and queens
once traveled long ago."
-A good volta and closing couplet, too.

"Cornwell in Autumn", is an extremely well-written, and delightfully descriptive piece. Penned with craft and skill, this talented poet has told it as it is. To me, this is definitely a six. I look forward to seeing your next post.

Beautiful picture, and the words are beautifully written. I love the autumn season. Leaves changing colors the smell of the air. And the fresh chill of the morning.

This is truly an excellent sonnet in all respects--skillfully composed with accurately sustained rhyme and meter and vividly descriptive of this area
of wild beauty.

Beautiful JM...fit for any poem I have written, just a lovely sentiment. How it leases me to see such beauty in a poem. What a wonderful expression to fill the unconscious mind. Bravo, my dear friend.
So good to read from you again, beautiful in expression, as in person.
Have a great day.
Good to read.

Thank you dear friend for your most encouraging review. A six star review from you is to be saved to read again when I need a pick-me-up.
I just fell in love with Cornwall. The countryside was harsh and yet beautiful. Wild and yet peaceful. I was mesmerized with its charm and beauty.

I am overjoyed that you liked this one. Your compliment that these lines could fit one of your poems is a compliment I will cherish.

Blessings and stay safe and well my friend.
