Thanks for reviewing. How are you settling in? I am in a destructive phase - one step forwards two steps back. It's horrible!
-
Not settling anywhere, Katherine -- I've had this house packed and ready to show since July but the husband is the long pole in the tent so to speak with his 'garage, office, and shed'.... sigh. I've stopped getting upset over it, though, cuz there's always an excuse....
-
oh, I misunderstood totally (as very often). Thought you had moved house.
-
That was the plan, so you are correct -- no misunderstanding on your part, my lady.... now, on the part of my husband? Weeeelllll.... :) ;) LOL! ;)

This eighty-word flash fiction story, Brewed or Stewed?, has the required word count and gives the unschooled a bit of insight into the difference between a spot a tea and a slug of whatever this is.

Thank you for your review. As so often, you make me aware that I should tighten up my work a bit more before submission - here it seems that I need to explain the 'whatever' (after the contest)

The old British cuppa can't be beat, Katherine. Especially that first cup of the morning. You are so right about how quickly a nice brew, can become a strong stew. Funny though, my granddad liked his stewed! No accounting for taste! Excellent flash fiction contest entry. Well done and good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Thank you for your positive review Sandra. Much appreciated.

PS I knew from your answer you were British (but went to check.) We are the only nation to recognize stewed tea -think a slight rewrite is in order after the contest.
-
I've had that with several expressions. I have to put explanations in my author's notes so that they understand. I never change anything that is truly British, and nor should you.
Yes, I live just outside Southampton. Nice to meet you. :)) xx
-
Nice to meet you too. I live in France, but will be coming back to Surrey soon for a while to take care of my parents

Hello Katherine.
I know what brewed tea is but I had no idea there was such a thing as stewed tea. The only kind of tea I drink is herbal tea and peppermint is my favorite.
I did contribute what I thought was a humorous birthday poem. a couple of people ask me why the print was so big. ð???

Thanks for reviewing. you certainly did present a humorous poem and a very funny one it was. I'm just hoping for a few very short stories as well. for large font question I am speechless. Don't the readers read?

Brewed or Stewed?
by Katherine M. Kean
Hello, Katherine,
You are British? Where do you live? I'm from Spain but I live in California, USA. I didn't know tea is brew or stew. It's interesting. I think it's a lovely addition to your book and entry for the
80 Word Flash Fiction contest. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for reviewing. Yes I'm British but I live in France. Can't do without the tea, even after 40 years! seems that stew may be specific to Britain.
-
In America, we call stew a soup of meat and potatoes. :)

With using a tea bag, I only can think of too hot or too cold.
Actually, I do get your story. And it is charming and takes one who knows brewed tea to bring into question.
I used to go to my late cousins house for brewed tea and it was enjoyable afternoon while she prepared the tea.
Good luck in the contest.

Nice idea to bring this story brewed and not stewed. I never thought about the difference:) I thought stew it's a dish and brewed it's a beverage. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest.

Thank you for reviewing. For British people, but apparently only them, there are definately two types of tea.

-Nice image and
presentation, Katherine.
-You notes are appreciated, too.
-A good topic and very
good descriptive detail.
-I learned something about
the British way of making tea.
-I like the alliteration of the
'r's in the last paragraph,
and the color imagery, too.
-One small thing, do you
mean immediately after all the taste?
-Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for your interesting review. I will have to go back and look up the point you queried
-
immediately all the taste
yes I mean what you write, but haven't a spare word. Is it better to write as i did, or to say immediately after all taste?
-
If it is a British expression and you want to keep it that way, I would. It sounds better to me with 'after' or you could just make a separate sentence. Hope that helps.
-
You are welcome, Katherine.

I remember my dad when I was young and living at home, he'd make a six cup pot, pour a cup for himself then put it on a low simmer, we couldn't get a cup of tea, he drank the lot. Later when I tried it, the first cup was fine, but the subsequent ones were horrid, so you're right, well done Katherine, an excellent post, good luck, blessings Roy

Thank you for reviewing and for your memories of drinking stewed tea - nice to have the validation

It?s true
Comment from Gloria ....
This is a great little flash fiction. There is much of an art to the proper brewing of tea and it quite a lovely ceremony when done properly.
Excellent idea and a fine entry into the contest.
Wishing you much luck with the Contest Committee. :))
