This is so beautiful. You took a specific topic, cardinals, and, as if looking through binoculars, focus on a specific pair of them. This is good technique because it makes me see into their personal lives and be more interested than if you stated facts. You describe the change in weather very artistically also, which makes this a well-rounded poem....beautiful pictures, words, imagery, story-telling.

This is so beautiful. You took a specific topic, cardinals, and, as if looking through binoculars, focus on a specific pair of them. This is good technique because it makes me see into their personal lives and be more interested than if you stated facts. You describe the change in weather very artistically also, which makes this a well-rounded poem....beautiful pictures, words, imagery, story-telling.

Cardinals will hang around all through the winter. They stand out like a sore thumb against a heavy snowfall. But I like your thoughts on the October cardinals, how they can disappear among red & orange leaves,
"blending more fully
in the rusting of leaves"
Males are so royal in appearance, while the females have more brown and orange feathers, and sparrow breasts. Beautiful birds. Add a couple of blue jays, and you've got the French hierarchy of the 1700's.
I enjoyed your free verse Autumn poem. Thanks for sharing.

kimbob, the Cardinal is our state bird, while I love all the birds that flock to our feeder...it the Cardinals that impress me most. Have a delightful Sunday!

This is lovely. I used to have the same experience outside my kitchen window. I loved doing dishes when they would come to visit my lilac tree. I feel badly for those who have never seen a cardinal. They can only experience this beauty vicariously. Thank you.

Both are responsible fo making sure the next generation of their kind, are there to add color to our back yards next summer. Lovely and well crafted poem.
