Yes, your senryu is exactly as I was taught the form is used, and in this case, 'gentleness' works well in replacing any touch of humor--beautiful. It reminds me of my own mother.

It is definitively a treasure to have the capacity to show and express kindness. It will for sure open many doors that have been shut by other negative feelings. And the word "gentleness" brings another dimension to the way she taught: it means correction and teaching with love!
