I always enjoyed being a mother. Being a parent to my four sons was GREAT! I enjoyed my grand-babies even more, but I have to say having a loving relationship with my teenage granddaughter it the best ever. She's fun and I enjoy her thinking and doing things with her. Thank you for sharing.

Oh, wow. I haven't even considered looking that far into the future. That would be amazing! Thanks!

This birthday poem, Growing Older, is a great collection of positive thoughts that buffer the idea of growing older. Happy Birthday, Barbara!

A very well-written birthday poem for Barbara. The older we get the more we realize how many things we can be grateful for. There is always someone who take the time to come and see you.

Hello Robyn.
I like the content of the poem because you touch on several aspects of life. I like the technique of repetition and the unique meter style for the poem. Nicely done.

This is such a sweet, humorous approach! I love the light tone that talks about this serious topic - it gets real and hopeful at the same time!
I love the triple rhyme and ""Oh my" at the end!
your voice is young and lively though, you can't help it - it's who you are :).
You built this up with a great arc, starting out with aging - the loss of fitness, not always feeling like we belong - then remembering the kids, grand kids...and the joy that comes with them.
Then back to the thought of aging, but this time with a little sense of satisfaction:
"I'm getting older, that's no lie;
can't go back, no need to try.
That's okay, I'm satisfied."
Except, this little satisfaction quickly turns into, something very alive and hopeful - feeling like the future still holds great things:
"The best of life still lies ahead."
so does the present:
"My life is rich in wine and bread."
Then a total, complete peak an awesome empowerment to end with:
"My life is full: a heaping pot!
It's my story - a super plot..."
So lovely!
Unique and life affirming!
Thank you, Dear!

This is a delightful poem. I like the rhyme scheme and the repeating "Oh My" It goes from a couple of negative thought about aging that we all fact the goes into all the blessing aging bring. This is my favorite verse.
The best of life still lies ahead.
I might be old, but I'm not dead.
My life is rich in wine and bread.

How delightful, Robyn,
I am certain that Katharine's mother, Barbara, will be absolutely delighted - "over the moon" - with your poetic offering. It begs to be read aloud, it's realistic, but ever so much fun to read and savor! Kudos!
Thank you for sharing!

This is a delightful poem. The tone is light-hearted, but the content is so wise. You show that growing older does have rewards--seeing the children grow up and then the grandchildren. Great attitude that the best of life lies ahead. That's a good outlook to have. I like your repetition of "Oh, my." It adds a nice, folksy touch. judi

This is an excellent entry for the Birthday Book that is being collectively written. I love the exuberant encouragement that fills each crevice of this poem. The repetitive .. Oh my... works great too. Lovely job and perfect execution.
