One never knows what a chance meeting can eventually lead to. Yet, how much joy in life can be missed by not revealing what is in your heart before the moment passes? You bring this to life vividly in this story, which, while fiction here, may be near reality for many.
From setting details to dialog, it is all plausible, and tugs at the heart of anyone with even a remote connection to love lost over failure to hold onto it before it could slip away.
Yes, Providence sometimes sets things right in the last few moments, but not always; so such rare occurrences are precious:

"Till There Was You" has ideal lyrics for this story.
Superb, and aptly illustrated as a flashback to their fun in the park.

Dear Mike, thank you so much. I remember this period of time so vividly, and just had to sculpt a love story around it. "Till There Was You," is my all time favorite 'Fab Four' song. I feel that way about Jackson. I'm delighted you enjoyed it, and I so appreciate the wonderful review and stars!

Too bad they lost touch. I guess some things just aren't meant to be at the time. And who knows about the future. People do recover from stage four cancer. It's rare, but it happens.

Is it the Dragon Speak programme? O had that for a long time here in Australia if you spoke with a Southern Drawl from your country it often picked up better than Aussie English. Byt the way I forgot to say I loved that old song "Till There Was You"

This is a vivid image. I like thefollow through. It mkes the action like a movie in the reader's head: "Not long after that, our train came to a screeching halt. Everything on our table flew past me, along with Ali. I caught her by the waist and pulled her to me, cradling her in my arms." It's a bit like watching the domino effect. It also serves as a metahor for the relationship. Do I detect a foreshadowing? "Volunteers come by the patient's rooms regularly to deliver books and offer to read aloud." There had to be a way to reunite them. This was lovely.
