This metaphoric poem is rife with confirmation of heart. Whatever your stand you will guard it to the death. You've been dented but not smashed and you will continue standing.
Stay safe

Hi, Lisa. I imagine there are times one must brandish a sword metaphorically to banish the mental dragons that often torment us. Your extended metaphor of heroic knight, armor, standard and sword works very well in this free verse poem. Rod

Exceptional poem, Lisa. I feel my struggle with life is as fragile, and as strong as the person in this poem.
Good luck in this contrst; and congratulations on the awards you've won recently.

Thanks for your comments, Cindy. I'm pleased you noted the combination of fragile and strong encompassed in the poem. Good luck with your own battles and thank you for your kind thoughts.

This is very much a metaphor and reminded me of the old hymn 'To be a Pilgrim'. Here the desire is to be a warrior but then so was the aspiring pilgrim who would 'with giants fight.'
The metaphor may be slight.y altered but the ,message is the same.

Thanks for reviewing. The poem's metaphor is quite universal - personal, spiritual.

This is a real WOW! Hold and maintain the line. The sword is singing. It is the song of the unconquered, the invincible, the invulnerable, the overcomer. Truly the pen is mightier than the sword. Or is it the sword? Depends on the "field."
Powerful art selection to accompany victorious stance of text.
Lovely coloring. Something very powerful about lavender.
Couldn't be better!

Thanks for your wonderful rating. Maybe in this case the pen IS the sword. Thanks for mentioning the colour too - I used lavender on purpose as an empowering hue.

I can hear the knight in your illustration shout to his men, "Gird yourself!" Your heroic poem reminds me of "The Man in the Arena," one of T. Roosevelt's writings which has also been an inspiration to many!
Thank you for writing and sharing, "Heroic Standard."

Beautifully written - almost like a Tolkien battle scene. I see a parallel of the kind of battle we are in spiritually all the time. These are times of adversity, spiritually, psychologically as well as physically. We need to raise the sword of the Word of God and stand firm.
