This is a great short poem. I like the phrase 'shadow-gather.' I like the extended metaphor going on. Ah, the importance of standing firm even when all around you is chaos. I like the phrase 'My dented battle armour' because it suggests that one has been through many battles already.

Thanks for your high rating and useful comments about this poem.... also for bookmarking it. I think teenage boys could relate to it - it has a bit of 'attitude' to it, some grunt, as well as a feeling of vulnerability being overcome.

Excellent metaphor for standing firm in the face of adversity. Tis the only way to forge our mettle with steel.

Apt development of the theme which is indeed heroic as it tis only dragons that are slain.

Much enjoyed this one, Lisa.

I love the analogy, LisaMay. We are all called to be valiant during our life's journeys. Sometimes the dragons are real. Sometimes they're figments of our imagination. Sometimes we can't tell the difference.

I believe the human spirit is indomitable because it is powered by the Divine.

Stay safe

Blessings Julia

This vividly descriptive, moving poem succinctly conveys a powerful message about weathering--and overcoming--life's challenges, all the while knowing that more will come.

Lisa,
I like the metaphor and personification in this poem about this Crusader int the picture or any knight of the middle ages.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

This poem, Heroic Standard, shows the valor of the warrior who stands against the enemy and who can bare his arms and proudly show the history of his faithfulness.

I think we all bear the scars of battle in some form or another and those who continue to stand firm usually reach old age and live a long time, I enjoyed these words Lisa, love Dolly x

Standing firm against adversity is great, LisaMay. :) Yet, many people think of doing it and then stand in the shadows and say nothing. There are a lot of wanna do but not too many do.

Hi Lisa
This is a terrific metaphor about our journey through life. So many things get in our way as we search for tranquility, peace, happiness. So we battle dragon after dragon along the way. Sword singing, we stand firm. We never give up. We hope for something better. We are strong and courageous. Of course, it's easier if we have God helping us instead of trying to do it alone, without Him. You hint at that with the artwork, showing a knight fighting in the Crusades, a cross adorning his chest and shield.
My favorite lines,
"My dented battle armor has chinks."
and,
"Slain dragons bleed"
Nicely penned free verse poem!
Hugs,
Kimbob
