I agree Jay. I love rhyming poems - sometimes I try something different but always come back to rhyme and meter.
I enjoyed your rhyming poem.
Blessings

I adore music. If my day jobs ever end, I'll take up being a Disc Jockey. That or maybe a full-time writer.
Sending you my best today as always, dear Jay.

I hear you. There is some especially fine free verse/unrhymed poetry out there for sure...but a song almost always thrives on the rhymes (and generally a repeating chorus)--In any event I would not wish a life without music and lyrics. Regardless of mood, I am always lifted up by a good song!--Karenina

What a great quote. "A poem without rhyme is like a body without a soul." This reply expressed my long held views. It's really good to know I'm not alone in this view

I do thank the poet who wrote the song. A solid sonnet form, adherence to your principles of rhyme and sound. Clever use of the mechanisms to teach the message.

I agree with you, Jay. Poetry needs rhyme. But you know what? Rhymed poems are not what publishers want today. They want free verse. They just aren't interested in rhymed lines. Sad, but true.
I think every tune you've ever heard on the radio rhymes. Maybe music needs rhyme. The Bobbsey Twins! Remember them? There were 79 stories, I think, written between 1904 and 1979.
Cheers,
Kimbob

Yes, your sonnet is true. All songs are poetry and their words and music work together for the beauty and the meanin of it. We should always thankful for beautiful music.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

I completely agree with you, poetry has to rhyme. Ask all the long gone poets that we still read today. All wrote rhyming poetry. I wonder what they would think of free verse. I enjoy your well written poetry, it is the way children learn, too. When it rhymes, they can remember it more. I know I do. Well done, Jaybird, another beautiful poem. :)) Sandra
