Well, boys will be boys, so it doesn't surprise me that the male Yaks herd together. The fact that they're herbivores makes me like them even more, and they're not as big as I thought, so sound as placid as your average cow. Here's hopping their numbers continue to increase and they will never go the way of many and become extinct.

Well done, you, for another fascinating post, and congrats to Graham for another excellent piece of artwork. What a team!

Heavenly days, Sandra! I've never seen so much information! Your grandson is going to be the most well informed young man from this book alone! This was very interesting reading for us adults, too. I learned a lot.
It's hard to think of people taming yaks ten thousand years ago.
Congratulations on All Time Best! Good for you!

Researching the yak had many surprises, they are such an interesting creature with a lot to offer the world. I liked the fact that they aren't at all aggressive unless they think you are a danger to their calves. Like any mother would be. :))
Thank you so very much for the six stars, Katherine, and this lovely review. I really appreciated them both. Warm hugs. Sandra

Great poem about the yak. I learned something today. There are so many species of animals that we take advantage of and do not even know they exist. I enjoyed learning about the letter Y for Yak. Love the picture too. Good luck with the new book, for your grandson.

Thank you so very much for the lovely review and the shiny six stars, Debra! You're right about there being many animals we haven't even heard of, this project has been quite an eye-opener for me. I'm delighted you enjoyed reading this one. Thank you. Warm hugs, Sandra

Narwhal check it out, maybe could be used for N
reply by the author on 16-Sep-2020
I did use the Narwhal for letter N. I've gone through the whole alphabet and only have Z to do, which I'm researching now. Have a look in my portfolio, you'll see N is for Narwhal. You might like what I've written.
Ps, great minds think alike! xxx
reply by Debra Franze on 16-Sep-2020
I will. I will be thinking now for Z.
reply by the author on 16-Sep-2020
It will be finished by Sunday. I'm enjoying this one. Z is quite a character.

Hello Sandramitchell,
Y is for Yak. It's a nice piece in continuation having lucid as well as perfectly matching the theme phraseology, captivating flow throughout from the beginning to the end, and beautifully depicting the meaning, features, habits, and habitats of Yaks.
I had heard about Yak, but only now I could know its female counterpart as dri or nak.
Interesting information about Yak through Verse and Prose. Pictures enhance beauty of the theme.
Both style and presentation are commendable.

I complimented you before on your story for this elderly (12) year old.
I still find your stories very well written and very informative. I enjoyed learning about Yak's and the herdsman who attend them.
I know your 12 year old and your other readers would enjoy your whole series.

Good luck.

Hi Mary, thank you for reading about the yaks. I'm glad you enjoyed the information I chose to put in. There are so many amazing facts about all the animals and other creatures that I've featured, I could have written a small book on each one. One letter to go! Warm hugs, my friend. Sandra

Good for you! I think that it is awesome you're writing a nonfiction book for children. They can all learn about yaks. Excellent work! Good luck in your books sales! I think it is great you're making one for your grandson.

I love Yaks!Having visited Nepal and been influenced from my teens, by Tibetan Buddhism, I resonated with this post, especially!
Never knew the ladies had a different name!

One spag suggestion for the poem:

for them(,) the cold is fine.

A few for the prose:

The wild yak will mate with more than one female in a single breeding season(,) which is from July to September.

Within ten minutes(,) the calf will be on its legs and walking, (and) then they'll both return to the herd.

Yak herders not only drink the animals' milk,(NO COMMA) but also use it to make delicious butter and cheese.

Good job. This was fascinating!
Great pics too!
Hugs,
rd

I would love to go and see them in their natural habitat, but I wouldn't survive the cold, and my joints wouldn't allow it! Age is so restrictive. I'm glad this post resonated with you. It makes it more interesting when you've actually been there. And it's nice that all the facts I've chosen to put into the post, has been, in a way, validated. :))
Thank you so much for reading my letter Y, Rama, and for picking up those nits. I've now made the corrections. Thank you for that. Being a book of non-fiction facts I have to make sure it's perfect. Have a lovely day, my friend. Warm hugs. Sandra xx

Ah yes...aging is challenging...sigh! I'm only 54 but the process got accelerated a bit in my case, from living three decades in a third world country. Shoulders, knees, hips, ankles, elbows...but, thankfully, not the fingers (yet).

There is, though, a silver lining with aging...the mind gets freer. Body may be restrictive, but the mind can enjoy serenity and wisdom of maturity. Right?! :)
Hope you have a lovely day too. xxoo

I've got more than 20 years on you, and my fingers are swelling, and the replacement knee needs re doing, we have such fun, don't we? But I'm sorry you are going through it at your young age, Rama, that isn't right. You should be at your best now. I see how the people live there, and those little children... It's not right. Take care, my friend. xxx

Thanks, dear. I did work hard for many years and now feel like I'm in semi-retirement, comparatively! :) Sorry about your fingers and knee. We're having fun with words, anyway! :)

I loved this Y poem for Yak! I would think Y is one of the more difficult letters to write about for this children's book, and your animal choice is perfect!
I like the structure of the poem followed by the facts about the animal. I especially enjoyed this choice since Yaks are an animal that is easily recognizable and identified with the Tibetan culture, but one which we really don't know very much. I learned a lot.

The Yak is a wonderful selection for your "Y" chapter and gives wonderful background on a vulnerable species. Love the poetic introduction of the Yak which is a perfect lead-in to all the facts and history of this unusual animal. The few extra fun-facts are a great closing for your "Y" chapter! So interesting and certainly a great study piece for young readers!

Sandra,

What fun! There probably aren't too many animals whose names begin with 'y' - but this was definitely an interesting choice. So many things I did not know!

Only one nit:
-->Wild yaks are heavily built, and have strong bulky (bodies),
--> to avoid 'built' x2

Thanks!

Thank you for that, Robyn, I've changed it now. I didn't see it until you pointed it out. One more to go, and then it's finished. Enjoy your day, my friend. :)) Sandra x
