There is emotion and feeling in your words. I like all the mention of the books, dustbins and other items in your house, the reader can feel your husband's presence in the house. Excellent free verse form and flow of words that says good-bye to your husband. My condolences.

There are never any right words to say that might ease the loss of a loved one, and time doesn't heal as they say. But hopefully, in enough time it won't be a constant hurt, but one that give you a few breaks every now and then to catch your breath.

This is a wonderful tribute to your husband. It beautifully written and your grief comes through but also the hope for the future he wished for you. This is very nicely done.

The author's words are heartfelt, sad, and creative. Thank you for the
author's notes - as you share this intense moment. I especially like the
last stanza - as it conveys words of letting go and moving on. The poem
flows and connects well. Have a great weekend!

your poems are always written with such a strong personal language that the emotions come through and we can relate so easily. I thought this captured that sense of shock we feel when someone close to us passes away. It felt very much like I felt when my sister called and told me my mother had passed away. it all seems so surreal, like it is in a dream. Like it is happening to someone else. Your tight focus on the mundane little things like the smell of the cupboard and the soiled linen really reinforce this feeling of the world going on without your husband. I like the ending where he tells you not to wear black. You have to go on living. estory

How simple, beautiful, respectful. One final lucid agreement about practical life issues. What a gift!
The house will continue to make adjustments as it has been doing all along. Treatment of the house as a living entity, and also a main character in this story, shows depth and sensitivity to all things present, that this author clearly demonstrates. She continues to notice all the "little things."
The interface of death and birth. Where we live every moment always, but more punctuate during bigger transitions. The place of transformation.
The one left behind will, of course, continue through the stages of grief, but having done a lot of the work already, she will also gain traction quickly "as you go".
Many have been and will be comforted, understood, and blessed, by this book. Each chapter a jewel, and the whole a perfect circle from beginning to ending.
Well done!
Lucy

This is another fascinating and very well written in the story of your husband terrible and painful illness. I am learning a lot about bein strong in the face of such cruel adversity.

I find it amazing that he had that moment of clarity before his death.
This is a fitting end of a time when you had spent so many months dealing with your grief and emotions. I think your poetry is wonderful.

Thank you, Beth, for this review. I still consider that moment of clarity, when we could say goodbye to each other and could show one another how much we loved, a precious gift of the Lord, a true miracle, because the doctors gave me the impression that it would not be possible.

A very well-written heartfelt poem about the last few moments before the final breath will stay with us forever. My husband and I were talking while drinking tea. He had a little irritating cough and went to the kitchen to get some coughing medicine, he choked on it and shortly thereafter he had a fatal heart attack. Those few hours we spent together that day will always be my most precious moments.

Oh Sandra, I am very sorry to hear this, but I understand you were thankful for the last moments with your husband. So was I, because he was very clear for a moment before he died .
