I absolutely your use of personification. This is such vivid imagery. We've all been in storms like that, but not all as lucky to be with someone else where we can comfort each other. Well epressed.

'lightning scratching the sky' A great phrase!
I believe you have met the requirements of this contest: Write a poem that has the following syllable count. First line has two syllables, second and third line have four syllables, the final line has 12 syllables.

Ha! I know I have a poem very similar to this (in terms of the 'story') in my portfolio, but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called so I can't compare the two...
Anyway, this is nice and meets the conditions well.
