Yes, Many people look down on the ytrley vulture that lives in this area but I know they are necessary to clean up the road kill and any other mishap that lays out under the sun and goes unnoticed. We need them to do the dishes so to speak. LOL well done,(but they are butt ugly), Sandra LOL Nancy:)xxx

Buzzards mostly kill their prey, whilst vultures wait for them to die. Vultures can eat anything that is reeking with disease, and live, where buzzards would die.

I am so glad I caught this post. I am working from 6:00 in the morning until 6:30 at night. I can't get everything done. By the time I get dinner and dishes done I'm too tired to do anything and our youngest son got his first job so had to move and get an apartment ASAP, It's been a mess. I find vultures repulsive, but some critters got to clean up the mess. LOL Enjoyed reading your post.

You are busy, my word. Are you back in class now? Ours are due back in September, which is the normal time to go after the summer holidays, but there is still concern about the virus and the lumping all the children together.

As you say they have an unfair reputation, as they have an important role to play; to keep deceases at bay. Your essay is very comprehensive and, as always, I've learned something new.
Here in Spain we have our very own 'buitre' which is quite magnificent in flight. They're often mistaken for being a huge mountain eagle. But I'm sure you know all that.
Graham has again made a wonderful drawing.

I hate to say it, but I was probably one of those who thought they were eagles. I never actually saw any where dead animals were. But I have seen eagles fly off with a cat or puppy. I shiver for the poor animals, what a horrid death.

I don't think so, they were unwittingly poisoned in Africa, by the drug they gave cattle. Now that's changed, they are picking up a bit. The covid virus wouldn't touch them, as they say, only poison or guns can kill them. There are places where people are using them for target practice and shooting them. I think they should be a protected species everywhere, not just in places like India.

After a visit to a program to learn about vultures (buzzards), I have been a huge fan of those ugly, yet essential creatures.
They are God's clean up crew. I am amazed how they can ingest diseased remains and not experience any sickness and they remove the rotting diseased carcasses to protect the health of other creatures including humans. What a great creation from GOD!!!
Living away from a metropolitan area, I see them virtually every week. The California Condor is the most amazing of them all.

Then, I'm even more pleased that I chose this one. I'm hoping that people will see just how much this remarkable bird does to keep our planet clean. I love the title, 'God's clean up crew!' that is so true. I've never seen one, but would love to. I've really changed my opinion on these lovely birds. What I liked was how God aided the vulture in not putting feathers on its head and neck. How clever was that!! Thank you so very much for the six stars, and the really lovely review. In the Old West in the US, there were just called buzzards. They truly are amazing. I saw three of them cleaning up a critter in a field a couple of weeks ago.

You are lucky to see them in the wild like that. They had them in Spain in an animal park, so it wasn't the same. It wasn't a zoo where they are in cages, they did fly around but were trained to come back for food. Now I've learnt more about them, I think they are wrong to keep them that way. They should be free to do what they are born to do.
This book, that I originally thought would just be for Eric, has now captured the interest of many adults on here who want a copy. I'm not sure now what age group to put this down as. Perhaps my 9 - 109 would be right? lol. I'm so pleased I went for the vulture, I've learn to really appreciate them now. xx
