Clever limerick - it is hard to smile about the upcoming election - or the past one! Both sides are so sure they are right - I'm just going to hold my nose and vote (like I did last year). I like the red white and blue design :)

I was shocked this won...politics is nothing but a battle royale and I feared I'd get chewed up by one side or the other! Did you watch the debate? Or was that a World Wrestling review? (groan)---I just told my husband that again this time around it feels like it's more voting against the one you think will do the most harm instead of FOR a truly inspiring candidate! I just pray it's fair, violence free, and all vote who possibly can! Thanks!--Karenina

groaned all the way through it. It will be voting on policy not popularity, that's for sure. Their agenda's are so different, I can only vote one way. I am glad I like the upcoming bench of young future candidates... My college age children are opposite sides of the fence and we had to watch in separate rooms (thank goodness my husband agrees with me :) I thought your limerick worked because you left the issue of "sides" open...

Yes, I was determined not to draw a target on myself. Besides, as I told Robert Zimmerman (who has no holds barred when he write son politics)--I do not have to agree with his every point to respect his right to hold his point of view. Remember when elections had some small sense of civility? Maybe it was Kabuki Theater...but gosh...Karenina

This is a very good reminder for Americans to exercise their civic duty and vote in the elections. I think the meter is different between some lines, which made the read a bit choppy in the middle for me. I believe most limericks use anapests. Other than this, the rhyming is very good and inventive.

Hi! Thanks for reviewing this! I was fortunate to win this contest since I admit the meter was not spot on. I counted on the reader having heard enough Limericks in their lifetime to put the emphasis on the proper syllable in order to make it work with what I feel is an all important civic duty. I appreciate your knowledge and your candor!--Karenina

I'm sorry, but I do not believe your statement of "We're too smart to buy misdirection". Some of you are - let's hope it is enough for the result to calm things down. The bombardment of misdirection is chronic.
You've presented your topical thoughts well.

This is a little hope and a prayer on my part--and an encouraging word to urge folks to consider, as you say, "The bombardment of misdirection. I guess the important thing is that those who can vote DO vote--and with some serious thought to the ramifications. Thanks for the review and sharing your viewpoint! In less than two months we'll know... Anonymous

Thank you so much! I truly appreciate your time to review and comment... We're in a pickle, for sure and we need all who can vote to do so--and in a manner that best guarantees their vote will not be held up at the USPS or "disappeared" because the dot over the "i" isn't exactly the same... Thanks again for reading!--Anonymous

This is a more serious one, but the topic is so darn important!
I am grateful for every single poem urging people to go vote.
Thank you for using your voice for this!

The limerick form is perfect and you did wonders with the presentation, too.
Warmly,
J

Thank you "J" (I often use mu initial as that's a family nickname!)---Very kind of you to come and review! I took a chance with amore serious tone but (meh) encouraging the vote is frankly more important than winning a contest. That being said I wouldn't refuse winning if it worked out that way! (smile)---Thanks again---Anonymous

Politics have always had a certain amount of lies and deception attached. Each slanderous party trying to discredit the other with deceit and sell their own twisted versions of events. But never in my many years have I witnessed such shameful antics and lack of respect, empathy, character, and common courtesy for our country and fellow man. What has happened to the simple values of right and wrong, good or evil?

I bemoan the increase in divisiveness as well. While Trump is already discrediting the results of an election that will not happen until 11/3--Biden has his own deceptions, many of which will be revealed in what used to be informative presidential debates and are now the rough equivalent of a morality food fight. Thank you sir for your review. Much appreciated!--Anonymous

This is a great limerick, somewhat unusual in content, however excellent in its rhythm and rhyme. This limerick is very timely, and fits the contest requirements perfectly--excellent use of punctuation--a most enjoyable read!
Good luck in the contest!

All the Best!
Phil

It seems to be the topic of the day (along with Covid)--and while not traditional Limerick fare I thought I'd give it a go! Thank for reviewing!--Anonymous

The choice is 'tween Biden and Trump;
One's smart and the other's a chump.
The way you should go
Is to vote for our Joe.
I hope that's the way you will jump!

Politics is a tough subject--my opinion is sure to alienate about half the country Still, I've had more than my fill of King Donald's antics and would like a president that would take us out of the laughing stock category! Thanks for the review and the Limerick!--Anonymous
