'Let night pass through our hands like a silk chord.' Marvelous line. Another great chapter in this Alzheimer's saga, fraught with plenty of emotion seething under the surface of all these images of autumn fading and the nights getting longer, the days shorter. A great metaphor for the decline of someone you love, and also of the relationship. 'Tiptoeing to your bed' that was great too. There's this great sense of compassion for your husband, but also this sense of loss as he cannot participate in the relationship. estory

You did a great job with your understanding poem, Marjon. To say I enjoyed it doesn't seem right. However, it is written well with great imagery. I could see and feel your emotions in every word. I could feel the desperation of what is unfolding in his life and yours. I commend you for always being there through this difficult time.
Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Marjon, your writing is sad, and yet in all of this, the reader never forgets that love this person bonded in better times, tethered in illness. Wonderful work, Marjon.
God bless,
Cindy

Fading Out
by Marjon van Bruggen

Hello, Marjon,

I like the metaphor in this poem.

......Raising a child is carrying someone into this demanding world.
Carrying a loved-one out comes in a later phase.....

.....November's beauty
mixed with colored sadness.....

Beautiful poem. I think writing helps to heal. Well done.

I've been there Marjon, I understand what you're feeling as you watch your loved one fade away. The sad thing about this is that you can't really be together until the end because in so many ways, he has already gone without saying goodbye.

This is very emotionally compelling.
Two particular lines which make me feel like this is written from real life: 'See the signs when he needs a hug,' and 'Carrying a loved one out comes in a later phase.'

As if life goes through the last cold season, the impact and effect of Alzheimer upon mind and body go like this at this developing stage; well said, well done; thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR
