I've read most of Thomas Merton's books. He is so basic and down to earth. This line makes me laugh: " it is usually a bunch of relapsing idiots." Where I worked, I heard addicts and alcoholics say, "I don't belong here with these people. I'm not like them. I'm unique." Enter Step 1... I just stepped out to read your poem. It is brilliant.

Thi is more than a biography, it is a confession of following a stray path, being lost on that path and having nothing but personal faith to sustain you while you seek the directions to the good path.
You have had some remarkable friends along the way, some terrible people infringing on your sanity, and a lot of help from various organizations that helped you survive.
I personally believe that when you do the right things for yourself, good things happen to and around you, something akin to echoes from the Great Beyond. We all have our struggles just making it through this layered, complicated life, and temptations abound for us top turn away from the true life we really desire, and take the wrong path to momentary pleasure and false fulfillment. Satan, whispering, cajoling, Evil!
The strength is in you to follow your own true meaning in life.
Be true to yourself!

Irish, you have extrapolated on this in a wonderful fashion helping me to perceive not only how the reader is perceiving this but helping me to decide how to proceed. I am a gyroscopic yo-yo high highs and low lows but as God is my gyroscope and keeps me on the right path even when I'm on the wrong path.

I think you might want to post shorter posts in the future, maybe combine short part like your hospital experience and the poem you wrote then. That might be a good post for Fanstory.
