from the "lips closed"... to "Even when he laughs he is someone else" really pushes home how difficult it is to emotionally deal with it all from a caretaker's point of view. Chilling and sad.

I love you for all these wonderful and understanding reviews, Margaret. They are so soothing. It is all over now, but I wish now I had the courage to post these poems at the moment I wrote them. These reactions could have helped me so much!

I think such emotional writing is often too close to us to let go of right away...

You are right of course. Then, it is also a bit my character. I thought it was too private, that I couldn't burden people with these problems. After all, they couldn't change a thing! (How wrong I was)

A very bold piece Marjon. I thought the intensity you used to express you desperation with your husband's Alzheimer's was very realistic and made for a very real and honest poem . Keep up the great work.

Comment from Suzanna Ray
Dear Marjon, the little "pac man" ( from the video game ) that was chomping it's way thru your husband's brain just hit one of those places where the automatic signal to breathe just got eaten. I am sure his behavior was never intentional.
Surely you can see and understand this Now, but it must have been terrifying for you Then.

Suzanna, it was, indeed terrifying. Most of the poems in this series are written at the moment when things happened, and I post them also in that order (or mostly so). And now, thank God, I can see things more calm and rational. I left the poems unchanged. They are more authentically that way. Thanks for the review.

Sandra, yes, the sad thing was that he really acted like a child, no, became a child, not a grown up man.
Thank you for the review.

What I liked about this was that it was a personal conversation with your husband. We overhear you talking to him, trying to make a connection with him, and not quite being able to do it. The frustration comes through loud and clear. "A high, crackling sound. Even when he laughs, he is somewhere else." That is really telling of this condition. One of the worst things about this disease is that it robs you of your relationship with someone you love. estory

Thanks, for another welcome review. I wrote: "even when he laughs, he is someone else." I thought it even stronger than somewhere else.

That's what men are expert at, being vengeful, and the thinking man will try to overcome that tendency, I know when my dad was physically incapacitated due to his inabilities, an active, creative man when young, he was reduced to a motionless, angry man, and who blame him? Although Carlo was reduced in capacity memory in some form remains I think, it must have been a terrible time for you. Beautifully and in trial written Marjon, blessings, Roy

As I often say, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. But I do know enough that when words can touch my heart and stir emotions, I'm alive. Thank you for sharing. I wish I had a six.

Very kind of you! Thanks for the review. I am above all a "free-verse" writer. I can write rhymed poetry as well, but feel more at ease with the non-rhyming forms, because I can express myself better. Don't worry about the six, I am glad with the appreciating 5 stars as well.

The calm before the storm of the resent he harbors inside. All is not as it should be in there relationship evidently walk softly to avoide his wrath.

Thank you, country range writer, for your review. Carlo was definitely NOT himself anymore, being so affected by his illness. I had to tiptoe around him trying to give him the best care that was possible.

So much emotion riled up within me and your words kept me hanging onto every word to keep reading on. It sounded so loving, then I got worried, then sad, then worried again. This chapter is moving. Keep up the fantastic work.
