Very well composed. I enjoyed the rhythms and the path that you followed. We still get the paper newspaper, not the online one. We just like the feel of the paper, and, I can cut out articles. Our local paper has turned into about 8 pages, not like the papers of old. The price has went up , while the content went way down. Oh well, we will pay the price.

It's terrible. I think one of the reasons that contributed to our paper letting go 102 carriers was the corona virus. I miss delivering the paper.:Thank you for reading my poem.

Ciao mystery poet .I gave you your 6 th vote..

You did a great job illustrating the life of a newspaper starting from the seed that will grow into a tree which will be turned into paper..

Your poem flowed well and has good rhyme.

I have used old newspaper to packet glasses, tea sets and other items when I was moving ..

I lined a cage when we saved a crow and he stayed in a cage while his injured wing mended .

Wrapped broken glass up several times

I cover the base of my plants first with newspaper and then with plastic to avoid frostbite in winter.

To help me start my fireplace

When I need to keep my wet shoes in shape

Old newspaper are great to absorb spills
and when you have pups or kittens.

Your poem made me realise just how often they turn out handy after being read. ..they are real lifesavers at times.

When we freed him he stayed in the vicinity and he even showed us his off spring ... we continued to feed him tip bits ( meat) now and then ( biggrin)

    Take care!

Yes change is in the air for newspapers - not the same experience on line !! almost elegiac in its tone - I love that stanza at the end that reminds that newspapers don't just supply our news - they also have very practical uses 'lining birdcages'

There is something so wonderful about holding a fresh book or newspaper in your hands and reading it. Sadly most papers are converting to digital. I know many people who are sad about this. Especially the older generation. Exceptional poem that deserves six stars!

There's just something about holding that 'paper' in your hands while reading that is just a real 'part' of the older generation out here... ;) :) A great choice of topic and poetry style for the contest - good luck! ;)

I feel the same way, I'm a part of that generation. Besides, I'm not real tech savvy. :) Thanks for reading.

I love this! It's a shame everything is going digital. I like a hard copy when ready. It's also sad that people are losing their jobs because of it. You did a great job with this and should be proud!

I like how you trace a newspaper's life from its origins--a tree--to its aftermath (recycling if it's lucky). I also appreciate what you say in your notes about the newspaper business going digital and putting carriers out of work.

Hi --
I like this poem about newspapers because it's very straightforward and fun to follow, from the time a tree first grows, through all its steps until recycling.
It's not so easy to find the right illustration, but you made a good match.
