I love how the end stanzas have near rhymes and how we are left with a question. This poem for me show how very vulnerable you are. It is as light as clean laundry in its melancholy. A breeze of a prayer.

A very well-written heartfelt poem. In times of crisis we sometimes spontaneously thinking about solutions for our problems as d most of those ideas are not practical possible.

True, it was just a strange fantasy, nothing serious. Thanks for the review.

One always has hope even to the very end, Marjon. I smiled at the image of you washing then haging your hubby to dry. Your words are well-chosen though poignant.
Thanks for sharing your journey.
Respectfully, Jan

It's amazing how we can be shaped by our parents when young, what political party we vote for, societal attitudes and morays etc. it's so bad to irrevocably shape young lives by "opinions" inherited, or a well meaning agenda. And as a young, adult Christian, I allowed God to reshape my thinking, and felt the misinformation fall away, (people might consider that wrong as well, heh heh) But it's proved reliable. It's a broad, moot, subject. Your love compelled you though, desperation was your wisdom. Lovely poem, but I understand. Blessings Roy

Roy, thank you for the review. The poem may seem somewhat harsh and unfeeling now, but when I wrote it, this thought came to me unexpected, while hanging my laundry out. I still hoped, against reason, that Carlo could be cured, that somehow, this disease could be washed away and dried up with sun and wind. He was not so bad yet, in the beginning we could still talk sometimes.

Just A Thought
by Marjon van Bruggen
Hello, Marjon,
It's a fine poem about your husband's Alzheimer disease. It's a very interesting thought... washing a mind from clutter. I can't imagine how hard it must be to go through it with someone you love. I guess that's the answer .. it's some one you love. Well done. I like the way you write.

Dear Marjon, A husband does not need to have a diagnosis for some grim disease, for a woman to have the notion that she would like to spiff up her husband by washing him out when she did her nylons.
I do like the added notion of hanging him by his ears!

Just a Thought is a beautiful rendition to the absolute of a condition. Sometimes comfort to the inevitable takes a long time to come. This is beautifully written. I wish you the best, writing is a good thing.

If only it was possible to do that, Marjon, to get rid of the illness that is taking away the person you married. Life can be cruel and with dementia, it's not only the patient that suffers, the carer, the loved one suffers equally, if not more. Your poem is so touching, my friend. Sandra xxx

There is always that wishful thinking at the beginning or the early stages of disease or tragedy. That is human nature. Your poem is very poignant.
