Connecticut comes to mind to me as the home of the Hartford Insurance Company where my husband had to spend several weeks training for his job as an ocean marine insurance underwriter. I enjoyed your fun with the pronunciation and spelling of Connecticut and your brother's way of pronouncing words in particular. A good strategy to mention two notable things about the state--nutmeg and the compromise that gives us two senators for each state and representatives based on the population. Very interesting. judi

I take it that is not your favorite state but I enjoyed reading what you had to say about it anyway because it made me laugh. I don't remember having to spell that word.but I'm pretty sure I would have had to look it up. Your brother was on to something with the way he pronounced it.

-A good job with Connecticut, Bill.
-I had to double check the spelling, too.
-I always enjoy the bit of humor you
put into things, as you did with
spelling and pronunciation.
-I always did thought about the
'neck' when trying spell it, too, but
then I forget if it is one 't' or
two at the end.
-A number of the sports casters,
like Mike Greenberg lives in Connecticut,
and I think a few others might, too,
-I guess it beats being in the NYC.
-It is expensive living there, that is
why many people migrate to Delaware!
-I appreciate the history lesson.
-You forgot Quinnipiac University,
where all those political polls are done.
-If you graduated from there, you'd
have to spell Connecticut and Quinnipiac!
-Good job; I enjoy the story.

I always pictured Connecticut as a beautiful, peaceful state. I can't imagine being fooled by a wooden nutmeg, but I guess I could be. I like how your brother pronounced it. I say that to myself when I'm spelling it. The tribal name would have been even harder.

Interesting, Bill. I know very little about the North East.
I seems my husband set his eyes on the west and when
we were married we migrated there. I always wanted to see Vermont in the fall, and all the Historic places in early America. The closes I ever came to that was Abe Lincoln and Springfield Illinois. Well done. Nancy:)

No. I'm a widow, 85 and on oxygen 24/7.(and there is COVID19.) I'd best stay put. LOL

That was really interesting. The spelling is a problem with a few of our English towns, if we were to pronounce them as they are spelt, they would sound totally different. I loved you take on the taxes, I think after this virus is done with us, the taxes will shoot through the roof! I enjoyed learning a bit about Connecticut, I've never noticed the silent c in it before!! LOL. Well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

I thought people trying to escape new York would flee to Connecticut (thank God for auto correct). You never said if you actually set foot in Connecticut or not. You're inspiring me to do one of these too. Keep'em coming.

I've never been to Connecticut, and really never knew much about this State. Your writing on it was informative to me. I enjoy your States series and learn something new each time.

Dear Bill, how you manage to leave your readers with a smile on their faces after reading such a grim report, is a priceless gift indeed!
You did it again, This Time, by adding the last four lines to your essay! (Quinnehtukqut is hand to spell, even when you are looking at the word! LOL )
