Loved this poem. The photo matches the poem and shows the sadness of the poem. I am angry with people who don't protect their puppies and then discard them so easily. Happens all the time. The child didn't know better but the adults should have. I hope any little guy like this finds his forever family. He obviously has lots of love to give.

Thank you so much for sharing you thoughts with me ..

I agree on every point you brought up ..

Many puppies are Christmas gifts but by summer they have become a cumbersome nuisance and they get discarded on the highway as the merry family is on its way to their yearly summer resort.

Last year 400 dogs were dumped on the highway just in the first week-end of summer in my country ..
    Shameful behaviour

    Keep safe!

Hello my friend

Beautiful entry for the Celebrating 20 Years!: 20 Line Poem writing prompt contest. Good job following the rules of the contest. Wonderful imagery and presentation.

I like the rhyme scheme and meter. It was easy to imagine the dog ordeal story..so sad. Good luck.

Thank you for the positive review ..glad that I was able to touch your heart.

Sadly, too many puppies finish up being brought to shelters because growing up they have become cumbersome bothers....

...dumping them on highways is another shameful habit during Summer holidays.

...dogs are truly our best friends but we in return too often abuse them.

    Keep safe !!

A sad tale that angers me. There is nothing worse to me than animal cruelty. Hope this is not a true story. Well written, you have brought a sad situation to light. Good luck in the contest.

Actually in part this story is true .. my next door neighbour is a baker and he had bought a puppy ( looked like Snoopy) for his 3rd child ..

going for my daily bread I would go up to it and pat it ( it was behind a low gate during shop hours....

He just disappeared one day ..so I asked if something had happened to him

The baker told me that the pup had snapped at his child while they were playing so he gave it to his elderly mother that live on a farm..

I guess he was still lucky... ( sigh)

I see you have a cute tyke as your avatar...(smile) is it a recent photo?

    Keep safe!!

The photo is of our dog Cidda who sadly passed away in March after 15 years.

I m sorry for your loss..pets are family members and they leave a huge void when the die.

In time you will find solace in the many happy memories you gathered over the years with Cidda.

    Take care!

Hi Mystery Poet
You told a sad story here. I'm afraid many dogs and cats are treated poorly in our world. Domesticated, depending on people for their existence. Many are treated poorly. Yet dogs are man's best friend. They are always ready to wag their tails when someone pays them some attention. I always feel sorry for those dogs who are tied outside, overlooked, forgotten for the most part. Heat of summer, cold of winter, they can't go anywhere. It's sad. And their owners need a swift kick in their rears.
Good Luck in the contest!
Cheers,
Kimbob

Dogs are man?s best friend but we can say the same for all men toward these loyal beings....

...so many dogs and cats are abused ..

left in precarious condition , no doghouse , with no water and some with no food ..

some dogs when they are rescued look more like living skeletons.. shame

And the preps just get a fine ..

Thank you for taking time in sharing your thoughts on the subject .. much appreciated

    Keep safe Kimbo!

Puppies are difficult and should never be given to a three year old! This poem made me sad and angry at the same time. I'm happy that you wrote it. Maybe someone will think twice about getting a puppy as a gift for a child. The writing was excellent and the story was brilliant! God bless. -January L. :)

Puppies are like children that never grow up ..

...they too need to be cared for and protected.

And children are children.. they destroy their toys ....it?s fun.

Yes adults have to be more responsible ..

so many puppies are Christmas gifts and then they get dumped on the highway in summer because they have grown and they are not cute anymore.

    It?s a very sad situation.

Thank you for reviewing my poem!
