Very good. My spade too has been on extended duty. Strangely enough, I recently dug up a very rusted horseshoe and within a meter or so I later dug up what I thought was a stirrup. Once I had extracted it, it turned out to be a spade handle (without the wooden piece). So, at least one good spade didn't make it, tending to my garden in its past...
There are very few poems written about everyday things and I hope that the difference of your subject here helps you stand out.
