The journey seems more like a purposeful, yet questioning quest - darkness, no wind, just kind of drifting. The ending of the last stanza seems to hint toward heaven, but one can be falsely lured.

Tony: beautiful! Depth, ambitious wording, lots to make the reader think. Is it Heaven or is it hell . . . a question I have asked myself a few times when life wasn't treating me so well. You and your family keep safe. linda

Thanks very much for taking the time to review my poem, Linda. If there is an afterlife and if it is anything like this one, there'll be a good measure both of heaven and hell in it. Their connection is too great to be ignored. I appreciate your award of a sixth star.
You keep safe, too. It sounds as though things are pretty bad in the US at the moment.

Not too intimidating, offering a rating on an accomplished poet and novelist from my lowly ranks as a beginning writer on this site! I enjoyed the pace and flow of the poem, relaxed, wondering; and I liked the appeals to the senses of sight and sound and soul. The twist at the end was a surprise after sensing all along until then that this was a journey toward heaven. Thanks for sharing your writing; I hope I can learn from you.

I was pulled in.... until the last line. If it were to be Hell, you would not be using words such as calm, caress, or sweet. It kind of threw me as you paralleled opposites. Beautiful ryhthm throughout.

Thank you very much for your review, Laelsa. I guess that one person's concept of heaven is another's concept of hell!

Interesting, But it doesn't seem to be a glimpse of heaven or hell. It sounds like it comes down to how the person reacts to it. Thanks for sharing your creativity. Bill

Thanks, Bill. I suspect we all make our own versions of heaven and hell depending on how we react to circumstances that life presents.

If nothing else, she seems to be a charmed ship. I would guess Heaven if not someplace similar. But Hell, just like the Devil, can appear pleasing to the eye, so let's just hope that it really is Heaven that's caught the attention this time.

Love the aura of existing in that realm between reality and nothingness.... yes, that voice does call across the abyss, but, in answer to your final question, whose voice is it? And was it but our own loneliness to begin with and we're on our own out here...? Love this one, Tony, because it invites the imagination to wander beyond where you leave us! ;) Yvette

And, from the void, there comes a voice
Most musical; a small, sweet noise.
Diminishing, it disappears,
A glimpse of heaven--or of hell?
Definitely it's a glimpse of heaven. So where did your little boat land? Not hell I hope.
Very good imagery in this beautiful poem.
Best wishes, Tony.
Sylvia

I'm delighted that you thought this poem worthy of a sixth star, Sylvia. I think we all interpret heaven and hell slightly differently and it was a description of this ambivalence that I was aiming for. All good wishes, Tony

This is such a beautiful poem, and the picture is perfect with it. The first two lines are so well crafted, I've read them several times, and will remember them when, at night, I too go on a journey of "a different kind."
I sometimes long for the calmness you describe in these verses and as I picture the boat sailing and surrounded by silence, I wish I were there! Thank you for sharing.
