Good job and what a great picture you chose to go with this poem - I hope some angel whispered to Anne as the ax came down that she would be remembered for the heir she left behind.
And I wish science had advanced to the point then of being able to declare that it was Henry's fault that he only fathered girls - oh, well, I guess what will be, will be.
You did a great job on this, and you have my contest vote.

    Ciao!

    Glad you enjoyed the read....

I all honesty I did not know this detail myself....

Henry?s third wife Jane Seymour actually gave him the longed hoped son....she died due to complications 12 days later..

Their son , born in 1537, was named Edward VI ...he succeeded his father and reigned over England and Ireland from 1547 to 1553.. he died at the age of 15.

Unfortunately, women in the past were always blamed when a male heir didn?t arrive ... thank god science now can tell us who is the one at fault ...

Thank you very much .... your precious vote got me to the podium with 4 votes.

    Keep safe!!

Thanks for the poem and confirmation my history chronoogy was correct. This was a great poem as the lines were unforced, the end rhymes slanted sometimes and the history accurate.

    Ciao!

Thank you for the positive review !

History was my favourite subject ..

I still love reading books that also provide insight about the private life of historical figures.

Napoleone Bonaparte followed by Giulio Cesare are my favourite!

Well , we have to be honest when Henry married Anne he divorced his first wife

.nothing at that time suggested that he would finish up having another 4 wives after Anne.

He nearly lost his crown for Anne ..

the fifth lost her head just a year after her marriage ..she was only 20 years old and he was an old over weight cantankerous king.

The last behaved and out lived him.

Thank you for reviewing my entry.

    Keep safe!

Hello, Anonymous,

Nice entry for the Big Historical Event contest. A great lesson in history. I was engaged from beginning to end. It flows well. I'm from Spain so I knew the story pretty well. Cathrine of Aragon was The daughter of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon.

Yes she was the daughter of the Spanish King but that didn?t stop HenryVIII from divorcing her despite the Vatican ?s divieto ...

This is a great example of when men think with their.....and not their heads ( laugh) .

    Glad you enjoyed the read.

My parents bought a villa in Tossa de Mar ..a very charming tourist town with an old castle .. and a huge rock island insight.

Unlike the next town Lloret ...at Tossa buildings no higher than 4 floors were allowed to be build ..this way the beautiful panorama was not ruined.

My parents lived there from 1992- 2006.. in dec 2006 my mother suddenly died .. it took us 4 years to sell because the market was crap .. my father return home to Italy where I was with the pets.

I used to got visit twice a year for 3 weeks each time. ..it was 1000 kilometres from our home in Italy . Initially I would go by bus, then I took Ryanair and after my mother?s passing we would go to check on villa twice a year until we sold it in May 2010 .

..we would take the ferry from Genova (18 hours) and but the car below.

Then from Barcellona it was for us a two hour drive cause pa always lost time getting out of the city ( biggrin)

My parents visited Spain the first time in 1970 .. they hired a red sports car and for an entire month travelled slowly down to the south till Malaga.
It was their first road trip together ..

The soil in Spain is like clay . You can slice it ..

...my father choked our lawn when he covered it with what he thought looked like nice rich soil. ( biggrin)

Sorry for the rant but when I heard you were from a Spain .. ( smile)

    Ciao!

A very informative poem. It is so saddening to remember the way women were treated back then. I've read diaries similar to your poem. We've come a long way. Thanks for sharing!

Wow, this is an interesting piece of history that I didn't know about. I guess that if you're a King that you can take liberties with your authority no matter the consequences. This is good work and I enjoyed reading this informative and well written work. Well done!

I love history but I see I must add some notes below for posters that are not European ( biggrin )

Henry VIII actually had 6 wives :

one died giving birth, one survived him , two divorced, two beheaded.

Glad that you found my wee poem interesting !

The theme was wonderful, and the content quite good too. But, the poignancy of the actual events could have been better reflected with selection of some more descriptive and evocative imagery. Overall, this was wonderful.
