Hi lyenochka. Thank you very much for your kind praise of HEROES LOST. I am very pleased the situation seemed realistic to you. DRINK is the slang term pilots used to refer to the Atlantic Ocean, especially if they were shot down over it. Thanks also for the heads-up on the omission. Rod

Omigosh! That was so sad! I had goosebumps all over me. If I didn't know you had already won the contest, I would say you will! This was an amazing story, I could have been there, listening in, it was so real! Superb story, well done and congratulations! :)Sandra xx

Your runaway win in the prompt with this story is well deserved. The emotional authenticity is gripping; dialogue is interwoven in the narrative naturally. It is inspiring and tragic at the same time. Death comes for everyone, those who deal in it and those who try to heal its wounds.

I think you were very fortunate to be given the skill to be a great storyteller and poet... being very fortunate to win in the voting is a direct result of that ability.

This is a powerful story that puts the reader in the @action and through the aftermath of survival. The violence of war, the drama of personal interactions, and the realization that these men and women saved the world. Will we see their like again?

You ask a great rhetorical question, Bill. I truly appreciate what these pilots did to defend their nation. I am also very pleased you like my story so much. Rod

Your setting is great. The plot is excellent. This will draw the reader in to identify with the characters' dilemma. Some may have had a similar situation and be very familiar with what you've written. This is a tribute to all who have served, lost a limb, their loved ones or their life.

Liz, you have summarized so well my purpose to pay tribute to these pilots and the medical staff of those make-shift hospitals. I am very pleased you enjoyed my story. Many thanks for sharing. Rod

The Few. This flash helps me to think of the sacrifice of The Few. They didn't seek their destiny, but they saw it. Ultimately the determination of those few pilots shows their fierce faith that every one of us ought not to give up.

Excellent story making! You had me throughout. Just enough description to let me feel the setting. More words would have allowed more exploration of his emotions, but for 500, it was great! I appreciated the historical context in your comments as well. Good Job.

I felt as if I were there with him during his time of pain. How sad that he might never know the name of the one who saved him and encouraged him to go on fighting.

Hello, my friend,

You wrote a very descriptive flash fiction within the rules of the contest. It's a good entry for the Lost - Flash Fiction writing prompt.

I like the well-defined characters in the hospital and the poor pilot.

Well done, good luck in the contest.
