You have created a wistful piece that eloquently describes the almost mythical sea creatures that often play with us humans as if we were long-lost friends.
Well done!

Mermaids,

What fun!

I agree, too--in these crazy current times, we must look to whatever we can find to provide peace and joy and contentment.

One suggestion for consideration is increasing the font?

Thanks so much!

I really enjoyed this poem. I lived in Florida for quite some time, and both the manatees and dolphins intrigued me. This pandemic has us all dreaming of happier times! Thanks for sharing yhis!

Hi Elaine,
It seems to me that you aren't writing so much about manatees and dolphins as you are about hoping for freedom when this pandemic is over. You see yourself swimming in blue-green ocean waters, diving and splashing in the waves, happy again to just be with family and friends and able to hug those you love.
"cold New England waters"... you must live in Maine or Massachusetts, perhaps? Not so far from me... I live in southern New Brunswick. When I think of New England this summer, my thoughts go to that poor woman who was killed in the shark attack. Julie Dimperio Holowach, 63, of New York City was set upon by a Great White on July 28th. Such a shame.
But this line tells me you long for a change, from cold ocean waves to warm South Seas.
"creatures of the deep
swim in spirit all
around me" ... You maintain sanity by watching manatees and dolphins glide through crystal cool waters.
"I patiently wait for
a return to
a world free
from an invisible enemy" ... I like the way you describe this miserable virus as "an invisible enemy".
Nicely penned!
Cheers,
Kimbob

What a superb way to inspire and divert one's attention. Remembering what we have been enjoying in the past and with high hopes that this too shall pass.

It's interesting how some animals shake in fear, some hide in caves, sone pray to spirits and gods, and others simply fear of being prey to a demon that hides amongst us.

A wonderful free verse that, I think, describes the state of mind of many for now, Elaine.... well done, my lady!! ;) Yes, we'll let their clicks and antics soothe for now.. ;) :) Yvette

I like how this relates to modern times, especially at the part
"I patiently wait for a return to a world free from an invisible enemy."
Great work!

Your freestyle piece captures the beauty and hope that we soon come to an end of this "invisible enemy," Covid-19, and we, too, can feel as carefree as the dolphins and manatees as they enjoy their spirited swims! Nicely done and love the accompanying picture!
