A very sweet choice. I love your flowing poem. You point out the poignancy of seeing so many pets without owners and the sadness in their eyes. Pets undo me.

Thanks for reviewing.
In choosing a kitten I was initially resistant to getting one that so closely resembled my previous beloved cat. Little Lily is a mini version, but her own personality will make her unique.

Congratulations on your new kitty, Lisa May. I know you've been wanting this for a while, even if you weren't quite ready yet. It seems Zoe got to you after all.
I enjoyed your poem, and know exactly what you mean by feeling badly for the animals left behind. If my experience with North Shore Animal League (the non-kill facility where we've always gotten our cats) is any indication, those furballs will find homes.
When you said you were going to try limericks, who knew you were going to try tri-limericks. I have to say, though, that with your focusing so much on limericks, with their strict limitations, I'm missing seeing your internal rhymes and your varying rhyme schemes, the ones I'm always saying shouldn't work but, in your hands, somehow always do.

Hurricane Zoe made this happen perhaps somewhat prematurely, but the kitten is of course a delight.
I am feeling somewhat lighthearted and lacking in focus at the moment, plus kitty playtime is SOOOOO time consuming, thus any serious poetry is far from my mind.

Enjoy your new playmate. I suspect you'll be thanking Hurricane Zoe for this unpredicted storm of playful kitty very soon.
I was just commenting about your other poems. I know you're going through a lot right now, and I'm not trying to ask you to do anything you're not up to doing. I look forward to your other poems when you're ready. Meanwhile, I'm happy to enjoy you limericks.
I don't think I mentioned it, but your new kitty is adorable. What an expressive face.

This poem speaks to me on many levels and your love for Lily is evident in your words. We've always had a cat as a pet as well as our kids and neighbors. They bring so much comfort. Thank you for sharing. Loren

The comfort of cats is a necessity for me, and I have been missing that for several months. Now I have a new companion and she is settling in well, full of fun and life and curiosity. She even tried to write a poem last night when she scampered across the keyboard.

:) :) They can be quite creative at times. Happy Fourth!

I live in New Zealand, where the 4th July is not a national celebration. For me that date signifies the anniversary of my father's death... so it is a reflective commemoration of sorts.

What a cute photo, and a cute story-style poem to go with it. I once swore up and down I would never be a cat person, but my brother's three cats are pretty appealing. Thank you for sharing a fun rhymed tale of how you got your new kitten, Lily.

We always had cats and dogs as kids, but i have become more of a cat lover because they are easier and cheaper to look after. Lily the new kitten is a lot of fun.

Looking for a kitty to love is exciting but didn't you know, that the kitty picks you!! Happy trails with you and Lily. She's a beauty! Years ago we had a cat and every morning he would come to greet you as he came flying down from out of the Christmas tree!
Hugs to you all!

Hi Patty. Thanks for that delightful story about your crazy cat in the Christmas tree! I think little Lily will be quite capable of outrageous behaviour. She has already tried to type her first poem by scampering across the keyboard.

:LOL Lily sounds delightful!

The limerick form is pressed into very effective service for this poem. I have always got my cats from the rescue centre, and I always let the cats make the final choice. It's never going to work if the cat doesn't choose the owner. I hope you will have years of fun with this one in the time ahead.

This is the first kitty I've had that didn't choose me. I had to save her from an unhappy situation, but since coming home with me she has settled in well and is nearly bursting wide open with purring. She tried to write her first poem last night, scampering across the keyboard, attention-seeking.

Lily is a beautiful little kitten. I'm sure she'll enrich your life and your soul with her antics and company. Such a sweet face. I'm sure it was tough leaving the SPCA with just one.

Lily is a very pretty, lively little kitty... I thought I would get a middle-aged cat who would just lie around and be a peaceful companion, but Lily was in a bad situation and needed a quiet, safe home. She is now settling in well here, but what a major distraction she is!!

You have done such a worth while deed here giving her a home Lisa, how kind you are and I hope she gives you pleasure, love Dolly x

Congratulations! Lily looks like a real love! Your limerick suite was fun to read. I think I would have the same reaction as the Speaker: I'd want to take home all of them. Rod

Lisa, she's beautiful. I love her piercing green eyes. You are officially a fur mom!
I like your triple limericks.
Yours seem so natural. I hope the other kittens find good homes too.
Blessings,
Cindy
