This poem sounds like the thoughts of many that the new norms are not wanted and are abhorred. It's like people cannot accept the loneliness of the isolation and the lockdown. You described these feelings and emotions very well.

Abhorred is such a fitting word though I hate that it can even be applied... Thanx so much for stopping in on this one, Rebecca -- so good to hear from you!! :) This one was a bit melancholic, I suppose... I think the whole situation affects everyone differently and some days are good and some are 'downers', but it's the difference in the youth and the children that bothers me the most, I think. :/ :( You keep takin' good care of you over there, my lady, and keep looking for the sunshine! ;) Yvette

I see the same feelings in Thailand. It must be a worldwide effect.

I agree with you fully about the effect this is having on the rebellious youth and the innocent children. I feel so very sorry for all who suffer. Mostly the infants and toddlers are completely happy.

I think it comes to that, Technological progress equals emotional regress. We become wolves to each other. I think you capture this very well in this stanza: "Removed from all that makes it whole -
a healing touch and friendly smile -
the soul seeks solace in death's arms,
surrend'ring to estrangement's guile" Thank you for sharing and good luck with the contest.

Hello, Yvette,

What's going on? You sound really down. Are you okay?

I get yearning for social closeness. Maybe missing fellowship...or just your friends. I miss my other kids and granddaughters. I live with my youngest daughter, her husband, and my grandson. I am grateful for them. I don't get lonely. But I lived alone for many years after my divorce.

The presentation is gorgeous. The mood melancholic. I was sick last week and didn't sleep for almost a week...it was bad but today I feel normal again.

Take care my friend.

Naaah, I'm good... no worries!! ;) Thanx so much for stopping in on this one, Gypsy -- and I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better!! :) Yeah, this one was a bit melancholic, I suppose... I think the whole situation affects everyone differently and some days are good and some are 'downers', but it's the difference in the youth and the children that bothers me the most, I think. :/ :( You keep takin' good care of you, my lady, and keep looking for the sunshine! ;) Yvette

A truly powerful piece that captures the hopelessness that some feel in the midst of the pandemic, protests, and general chaos. Suppressed fear and anger are now manifesting themselves - eclipsing hope and faith. Dark times indeed...

I like the rhythm and rhyme of this poem and it is an excellent contest entry. It appears to be about the restrictions we are currently facing in society. I guess I have been lucky because I have been enjoying all my many zoom meetings, and being single I was used to a somewhat solitary life, so I am not feeling the situation to be quite as dismal as the poem suggests, although I may well be deluding myself. Thanks for sharing.

Thanx so much for stopping in on this one -- you are right that the whole situation affects everyone differently and some days are good and some are 'downers', but it's the difference in the young children that bothers me the most, I think. You keep takin' good care up there and look for the sunshine as it's never a delusion! ;) Yvette
