Well used alliteration throughout this powerful and dramatic poem Yvette as the world we knew goes through a very scary stage -
bereft of confidence in future's stake - I think we need to all take a breath and hope everything calms down. Good work,
cheers,
valda

Thank you, Valda, for stopping in on this one, my lady - your support is so appreciated! Here's wishing you a Magnificent Monday out there... I'll be back on schedule in another week or so....? LOL! ;) Yvette
P.S. Sorry, I'm soooooo far behind on everything as we are trying to 'downsize' over here. Just about finished going through the whole house and deciding what to donate and what to put in storage so that the house 'presents' as attractive and roomy - lol! Now I'm slogging (REALLY slow going - ugh!) through room by room and cleaning from floor to ceiling and in-between... forgot how much I HATE moving because you get the house the way you would like it to 'look' and then sell it! :) :)

This poem I believe takes the somber, helpless, feeling we see suffocating our world today. If you think about it most of the upheaval, and unrest today had its beginnings with restrictions in breathing. For example, George Floyd, I can't breathe, Covid=19 which restricts breathing, and now these silly masks, no one really knows if they're helpful but they sure make it hard to breathe. Your last line makes the point, has breath become something merely to be endured? :(

Thanx so much for stopping in on this one, Frank -- and breathing (or, more specifically needing to breathe) does seem a common them from the beginning... perhaps that breath will be found soon for all of us!! :) Take good care of you out there, and keep looking for the sunshine! ;) Yvette

The future does seem very bleak at the moment, but I think that throughout history, there have been many who have thought this. Another engaging piece of writing, Yvette. I enjoyed reading it.

Angst and anomie characterize a world bereft of its familiar touch, and you've conveyed this feeling well. Social isolation can take a terrible toll on society, as we await the appearance of the "new normal," not really knowing what to expect. I know it's starting to get to me, in ways it didn't when social distancing was at best, a novelty, and at worst, an inconvenience. Your poem is profound and compelling.

OH my goodness, Mary Kay - such a lovely review and topped off with those bright stars - THANK YOU!! ;) :) Thanx so much for stopping in -- haven't heard from you in a while, so I hope things are going okay up there...? :) And, you're right, it's 'getting old', isn't it? I know this one was a bit melancholic, I suppose ... I think the whole situation affects everyone differently and, like you say, some days are good and some are 'downers', but it's the difference in the youth and the children that bothers me the most, I think. :/ :( You keep takin' good care of you up there, my lady, and keep looking for the sunshine! ;) Yvette

Such a profound and timely entry to the 20 Line Poem contest! It captures the sadness and hopelessness that so many folks are feeling right now because of the enforced loneliness. Great job!

Thank you for coming back to post to let us know you're okay! Your poem is very well written and thought-provoking. Life is difficult but we don't what to just survive, (breath is but to be endured) we need fellowship. Best wishes in the contest!

LOL - yeah, I'm here...sortof! :) :) :) Thanx so much for stopping in on this one, Helen -- I can see a light at the end of the tunnel (even though it means the whole 'house on the market' thing soon - ugh!! :) This one was a bit melancholic, I suppose (but I know you can relate, right?)... I think the whole situation affects everyone differently and some days are good and some are 'downers', but it's the difference in the youth and the children that bothers me the most, I think. :/ :( You keep takin' good care of you up there, my lady, and keep looking for the sunshine! ;) Yvette

Shape wit conveyed in this particular read, finding the ingredients for the stir bountiful, served by a talented cook who seasons this stir forming its inner acceptance. All views are stated in my opinion.

There is much sadness in these words Yvette, a sense of foreboding and destruction of one's future where we feel lost and abandoned, fine rhymes here, love Dolly x

"Eclipse of Humanity", is an extremely well-written and deftly descriptive piece. It was a pleasure to both read and review this talented poet's work.
I look forward to seeing your next post.

Powerful and poignant--elegant phrasing, somber theme carries through. Startling imagery--estrangement's guile, breath is but to be endured, shards of prison glass. Cheers. LIZ Good luck with the move!
