This is so stark that the poignance is nothing short of palpable. The last line even drew a tear. Dean felt very real--his thoughts, his surroundings, his sadness. Great job; no wonder it was Story of the Month. I would have voted for it, too, had I been around.

Funny thing about that. I didn't remember the story of the month. Lol. Had to go back and look it up. Thank you.

A lovely story about this seventeen year old who takes the walk back to a place and a time where his memories were loving ones. Beautifully told, and good luck in the contest,
cheers

This is a lovely piece of writing.
You portray a great sense of loneliness of the place that Dean is feeling himself.
I got into the character of Dean so much in such a short piece, I checked out your book and bought it for my kindle, and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Dean.

Hello Gretchen,
Oh my goodness!
I enjoyed every morsel of your story.
And no, seventeen is not too old for pretend. If it is, I'm sunk because at sixty-six, I have quite the imagination!
Wonderful descriptive setting and characterization.
Thank you for sharing!

This is great Gretchen. Such clear imagery and you helped us see into the troubled soul of this 17 year old boy. I enjoyed it very much. Nancy:)

Hi there,
A nice little memory jog down one of Dean's favourite places. I'm glad he seems to recognise that time moves on, and our childhood memories keep us in touch with both the people and the places we love.
You portray his melancholy well. Good writing.
Regards, Pete.

This is one of those stories many can relate to, and those who can't missed out. Your setting being somewhere I would like to be right now, enjoying the sensory perceptions and thinking back to when and who. Great job, and thanks for sharing.

Well done. A likable character in an cleverly done setting. Sort of quiet and subtle--not the usual rattle and clatter I find in a lot of FanStory fiction. It will be interesting and fun to see where you go with this.

You have done justice to your favourite character in your description of him. You reveal many of his feelings and character traits, and I picture him as a sensitive, thoughtful young man, with strong family values.
