This is so stark that the poignance is nothing short of palpable. The last line even drew a tear. Dean felt very real--his thoughts, his surroundings, his sadness. Great job; no wonder it was Story of the Month. I would have voted for it, too, had I been around.

You portray a great sense of loneliness of the place that Dean is feeling himself.
I got into the character of Dean so much in such a short piece, I checked out your book and bought it for my kindle, and I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Dean.

Well done. A likable character in an cleverly done setting. Sort of quiet and subtle--not the usual rattle and clatter I find in a lot of FanStory fiction. It will be interesting and fun to see where you go with this.
