Hello Bill Schott smiles to this chapter in your book
' Attack of the Fifty States'
The way I read your well written story was really interesting along with dialogue, is true what took place in Alabama. I will be waiting for you to Attack 'Vermont.

I?m going alphabetically so it may be late August.
-
In the meantime with me waiting. will the State that begins with a B.
Gert
-
Actually, there is no B state. I have done, Alaska, Alabama and Arkansas already.
-
You are so correct there isn't a State that begins with the letter B so back to the A states.
Soon. Gert

LOL!! Did they ask for proof of insurance back then (lol - yeah, I can remember when they didn't!!) A great 'first installment', Bill - and that's from an uprooted-Louisiana girl living in Alabama! ;) :) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

Time for a new vision prescription.

Semper fi, Marine. I get the feeling this little tale is based on fact, Bill. That sort of thing does occur in the south, I know. It's like some southerners a re still holding a grudge about the war they lost.
Wonderful error -free writing , my friend. : ) Bob
ps. this is worthy of six stars, but alas, I have none left. :( Bob

Thank you, Bob. Usually if they pull you over the ticket is guaranteed. Swerving over the line is the standard probable cause.

This is a well-written, interesting piece. The more he talked the more concerned I became about his well-being. Thinking the cop isn't going to believe all of that. Fortunately, he did. Very nicely done.

This was a very interesting story, Bill. Makes one wonder exactly why he did pull the Marine over. I think muscle cars only look like they are speeding sometimes in one's mind. They are every mans dream. Except for the one's that love pickup's. LOL Well done. Glad he didn't ticket the Marine. Nancy:)

This is a common occurrence for northern plated cars in the south.

Bill,
THANK YOU.
Whew. As I read, I became more and more worried about how this scenario was going to play out. There's a couple ways to look at it:
1.) Yet ANOTHER idiotic play on Alabama as the place where all the cops (and everyone else in charge) is just as stupid and bumbling as possible - which is kinda mortifying to our lovely state --or--
2.) A fabulous turn-off and great ad to keep people from choosing Alabama as a substitute location for relocation from all the nonsense going on in the world right now.
But, it ended up not mattering because you actually played this guy in a cool way. Thanks a bunch! I enjoyed!

I actually wondered what you would think about this take on the southern lawman stopping the northern car. Most troopers and such usually give the military the benefit of a doubt in cases like this.

Please tread carefully on Alabama or suffer the wrath...

Yep, this sounds just like Alabama traffic patrol! Your conversation with the sheriff was done well, and that is why you were sent on your way with no ticket!

Hi Bill. This is excellent. I think you've described this scene very well, especially the cop's understanding of the situation. I think the same cop stopped me, too, but it was in New Mexico. Marilyn

Dear Bill, I think this is a wonderful story, and hope it is true, so you can tell it to your grandchildren and you can print it out and put it into an album for each family for a Christmas present.
If you have fabricated any part of it, you can just title it "Grandpa's Tall Tales"

I hate to do this to you Bill, but I feel that a teachable opportunity is here . Try to imagine the situation you wrote about and add the handicap of being a dark skinned, clearly African American with dreadlocks or an Afro hairdo. CHave you any idea what the outcome would have been like. I can pretty much assure you that things would have gone a little bit, no a lot different. That is the curse we live with here in America, and it is not restricted to the South. Sorry, if I brought you down.

Not at all, Nomi.I agree that Driving While Black is a real thing, but I;m not the one to take that persona om. This project is semi- autobiographical.

I normally wuld not have responded so, but given the current climate, I could not help myself. I have never gotten a vibe from you that suggest the tiniest bit of bias, so please know that what I wrote was not directed toward you.
